A SUDDEN MEETING

After the oath taking and a month of hard training I got to take a break for a few days before I start going to office with dad. I mean I had to take over the office someday. But I didn't know it would be this fast. After coming back from Japan I was planning on finding a consultant resolving my dreams issue and then I thought of being off again. But then suddenly all these Fae things came up. How am I supposed to be someone I'm not.

I was lost in thought when mom put a bowl of snacks in front of me.

"You're not watching the TV."

It wasn't a question. It didn't sound like one. So I just look at mom. I know she has understood me all my life. Will she understand me now? I just can't be Bingqing. Their daughter. And what is the purpose I have to fulfil?

"A-Zhan! It's okay to feel lost." She puts her hand on my shoulder. "It's not an obligation for you to be someone else! You can be yourself and still fulfil your purpose."

"What is my purpose, then?" The cracking of my voice at the end was evident, but mom didn't point it out.

"You know your purpose in your heart A-Zhan. No one can tell you what it is."

"Then what happened at the temple? Why would the high priests say the universe chose my purpose for me?" I was totally lost now. I didn't know what is going on with my life or what might happen from now on.

Up until a month back, I knew for sure what I wanted to have, what I wanted to do. But now, I'm not so sure anymore. I'm lost. I'm confused. I'm in an identity crisis. Who am I? Jiang Bingqing? Or Xiao Zhan? Who the hell am I?

"Well, the customs in the high Fae temple is quite different from this regular world we live in. But we can always look up to them and just decide our path ourselves. They might tell you that the universe chose your purpose. But darling, the universe is in you. In all of us. What would that mean then?"

She smiles at me like the first day I saw her. The smile that can calm me down. "Zhan. If you're confused about being a reincarnation of A-Qing, then don't worry about it anymore. You are Xiao Zhan. And you are our son. You were born a fae, strong and serene being. Be who you are and you'll find your path again."

I look at her receding back going back to the kitchen. What did she say? I was born a fae? If that's the case then I can do it, right? Yes! I can do it. She said I am Xiao Zhan and I am their son. I'm just coincidentally the reincarnation of their dead daughter. A snow fae queen. I can do it all. Whatever you chose for me, universe, just bring it on!

And right in a week I'm getting ready in front of the mirror. A gray suit and pants, white shirt and a black tie. Completing the look with a Titan watch my dad gifted me the day before. It goes so well with outfit that I was surprised how dad knew I was going to choose this suit today. But anyway, he's a fae after all and he has powers I can't fathom.

Which fastening the clasp of the watch the mark on my wrist caught my attention. A mate mark? So I have a mate out there somewhere? But they said the high priests locked my mate mark. What does it do anyway?

I was contemplating looking at my left inner wrist when a knock on my room got me out of my trance. "I'm ready mom. I'll be out in a minute."

Getting into the car after a whole lot of instructions from mom was tiring. Telling me to be careful because humans are dangerous. Telling me to have my lunch on time and work harder. I mean who am I kidding. She's a mother after all. In the car on my way to the office the ride was silent. I was looking outside and thinking about a lot of things.

How am I gonna survive in the company? Dad appointed me as a design team junior associate. He told me to start with that and go from there. And I'm happy that my design degree is finally coming to use. I was worried about how my colleagues are going to be, how the manager would treat me. All of these were in my head when the driver pressed the break quite hard, throwing me forward in my seat.

"What happened?"

"Sir, there's a woman in front of the car." He pointed out to the fuming woman standing in front of the car squinting her eyes into the car. A shitload of shopping bags were scattered around her.

I just order my driver to manage it. Why today? I don't wanna be late on my first day in office.

But looking at the situation in front doesn't look good. It looks like my driver was having troubles negotiating with her. Ugghh! I get out of the car and approach them in the front.

"What is the problem Wen Jin?"

"The problem is you, mister!" She shouts but when she looks at me she looks dumbfounded. She opens and closes her mouth a few times like a fish out of the water. Then closes it again. "No. Nothing is wrong." She finally said.

I go to the scattered shopping bags and pick them up one by one then hand them to the woman. I give her a smile which I'm sure didn't reach my eyes. Then I gesture her to the side of the road. "Please, miss."

Then I look at my driver and with a gesture from my eyes to continue I enter the car. I really hate this type of interruptions. I look out the car window again. From my periferral view I saw her look at the back of my car.
