Black Peak is a small town located in Virginia. It is a pretty normal town, except for a few things that make it unusual. There are several different areas in the town that are haunted, and not the usual kind of haunted. There are reports of people going into these places, and not being seen again. If they do make it out alive, they are committed to mental institutions for the rest of their lives. Although it isn’t really living for them.
Steffan Davenport, a sixteen year old boy, lives in a small two bedroom house on the north side of town. His best friends are his neighbors, Casey Foxe and Kyle Jamison. They go to the only school in town, Black Peak High. Steffan is the most popular guy in school. He has dark scruffy hair and those dreamy blue eyes every girl falls for. And of course that smile that gets him anything he wants. Every girl wants to date him and every guy wants to be him. Except there is only one girl he can’t get off his mind. Casey.
Casey isn’t the most popular girl in school. She looks like the typical kind of popular girl, with her long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She never liked the other girls in her class. She would usually escape from them by taking art classes. All the rich, stuck up girls never took art classes. Casey loved to do art. It was the only place she could escape from all the drama.
Kyle on the other hand, is the typical high school geek. He’s tall, scrawny and has pale skin. In other words, the opposite of Steffan. Kyle doesn’t get along with all the other guys. He doesn’t play sports or miss out on any chance to get extra credit. He doesn’t talk to many people either. He only talks to Steffan or Casey most of the time. The only girl that he has ever had a crush on is Casey. Except he could never get enough confidence to tell her that.

Steffan’s house is where they hang out everyday after school. His house is small, but it is only him and his mom living there. Steffan’s father left them when he was eight. He has never seen him since. His mom is a nurse at the local hospital across town. She works double shifts just to make ends meet.
When Steffan, Casey and Kyle get to Steffan’s house, they always do their homework first. Kyle has to help them most of the time. Steffan usually gets bored and tries to make different conversations.
“Do you ever wonder what it is like to go to a haunted house?” Steffan asked.
“No, not really,” Kyle replied quickly.
“I think it would be fun!” Casey said excitedly.
“We should go to a few of them in town. I’ve heard some cool stories about them.” Steffan said.
“I don’t think it’s a very good idea. I’ve heard that when you go into those houses, you don’t come out,” Kyle said nervously.
“Oh come on, Kyle. You can’t believe those stories. They are only made up to keep people from going into those houses,” Steffan added.
“I still don’t think it’s a good idea,” Kyle mumbled.
“I think we should check a few of them out tomorrow,” Casey added.
“That sounds like a good plan. Kyle, are you going to come along or are you too scared?” Steffan asked.
“I’m not scared!” Kyle said embarrassed.
“Alright then, lets meet up tomorrow morning.” Casey added.

The next morning was cold and windy. The grass was crisp. It was the perfect weather to go to haunted houses. Steffan and Casey were the first ones to walk out of their houses. They walked over to Kyle’s house to wait for him.
When Kyle came out of his house, they started to walk to the first haunted house on their list. It was only four blocks away. As they approached the house, they saw how abandoned it was. The grass was long and unkept. The siding on the house was discolored and falling apart. The windows were cracked and there were spiderwebs everywhere.
Kyle was already scared but he wasn’t showing it. They all looked at eachother. Steffan was the first to walk inside. The inside was even worse than the outside. There was dust and spiderwebs everywhere. The furniture that was left there was moldy. The house had a musty odor to it. They all split up around the house. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening in the house. Steffan and Casey met around a corner and came up with an idea to scare Kyle.
Kyle walked into the living room of the house. Something skidded across the floor in front of him. Kyle jumped backwards and ran into the wall. Steffan and Casey came around the corner and started laughing at him.
“C’mon guys, thats not funny,” Kyle said. His face turned red. All he could think about was how much of a joke Casey thought he was. Kyle ran out of the house.
“It was just a joke, Kyle,” Steffan told him. “That house isn’t haunted. nothing happened while we were in there.”
“Whatever,” Kyle mumbled. “Let’s go to the next place.”
The three of them started walking to the next house. It was across town near the cemetery. When they got there, the house was in worse condition than the last. The windows were shattered and the siding was falling off. The door was missing from the front. Steffan and Casey ran in without hesitation. Kyle slowly worked his way inside. When he did, he heard a loud noise in the next room. He walked over and saw a large couch in the center of the room.
Steffan and Casey were standing behind the couch waiting for Kyle. All of a sudden, the couch slid across the floor and pinned Steffan and Casey to the wall. Kyle screamed and tried to move the couch before it crushed them. There was a strong force keeping the couch in place. It wouldn’t budge an inch.
The strange force let the couch loose and they were able to break free. They all ran out of the house as fast as they could and agreed never to go back in that house. They hurried through town and decided to make one last stop, the black forest. It is supposedly the most haunted place in town. As stories are told, nobody makes it out alive.
The black forest is about a mile and a half from the town. They journeyed over to the edge of the forest. The trees were huge compared to them. Steffan was the first to enter the forest, followed by Casey and then Kyle. The further they went, the thicker the forest was. Steffan pulled Casey away from Kyle and started running. They lost Kyle on the way.
“Steffan what are you doing!” Casey yelled.
“Shh, I just wanted to talk to you in private,” Steffan whispered.
     “About what,” Casey wondered.
Steffan kissed her.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for so long,” Steffan said.
Casey was speechless. She didn’t want to be more than friends with him, but she also didn’t want to hurt him. The only thing she could do was turn around and walk away from him.
     “Cas-,” Steffan started to say.
Something grabbed him from behind. Casey turned around and he was gone. Her heart was pounding. She turned around and Kyle was there.
“Kyle! Something is going on out here. Steffan was just here and now he’s gone!” Casey said.
“He’s probably just hiding around a tree to scare you.” Kyle replied. “Steffan! You can come out now. We aren’t scared of you!”
Nothing happened. Steffan didn’t come out. Kyle turned around and Casey was gone too.
“C’mon guys, this isn’t funny!’ Kyle yelled.
The forest started to get foggy. The fog was thick. Kyle couldn’t see anything. He started to run out of the forest. He ran as fast as he could to escape. When he reached the edge of the forest, it was clear out. The fog was only in the forest.
“What am I going to do,” Kyle mumbled. “I can’t just leave them in there.”
He decided to go back in the woods. He slowly walked back to about where Steffan and Casey disappeared. He looked around and found nothing. He looked up at the trees. Something dripped on him from above. He looked up and saw Steffan. He was pinned to the trunk of the tree with a large pole through his chest. The tree next to that was holding Casey in the same way. Kyle screamed and ran out of the forest.
Kyle got out of the forest and fell to his knees. He didn’t know if what he saw was real. He started to slowly walk home. He got to his neighborhood and saw their houses. Sitting on the front porch of Steffan’s house were two people. Kyle got closer and saw it was Steffen and Casey. All he could do was smile.
