~Backround info: This is an au where you live your life seeing black and white, but when you're near your soul mate, you can begin to see color. The closer you two are, the more vibrant the colors. But you never know with who or when it'll happen.~

I woke up this morning, like usual, the bright white of my light contrasting against the pitch black of my ceiling. I rolled out of bed, onto the floor. I groan and climb out of the big grey blanket. My mom rolls her eyes and goes to get ready for work. I throw on a loose grey sweater and black jeans. I eat breakfast, put on some makeup, brush my teeth, straighten and comb my grey hair, toss on some light grey converse sneakers and grab my black backpack, barely catching the bus. I take out my phone and listen to music while browsing Instagram. My best friend, Rose, sits next to me. She grabs her earbuds and does the same as me. I text with my friend Alex until we reach the high school.

When I get to class, I see the teacher talking to someone. I look around. Something seems different. I look down and almost yelp. My sweater has turned an odd color. I don't even know how to describe it. It's beautiful. I look at my jeans, they're a dark color similar to the black they were, but... different. My sneakers were another color, light but beautiful. Even my skin, usually a light grey, was a strange color, almost white, but not quite. I run to the bathroom, but when I get there the color is gone. I look at my face, confused in the mirror. I walk back to class, just before the bell for class. The teacher, Mrs. Jenkins, introduces the new boy, Daniel. I look up at him. Since everything looks weird, his hair was a dark color, sorta like black, but not quite. He had a sweatshirt the same odd color as my hair, and jeans the same color as my jeans. He had sneakers that were kinda like my sweater, but brighter. He sat in the desk next to me. Suddenly, everything was brighter in color. My hair was a fierce color, not like white, grey or black. My sweater was richer in color and so was everything around me.

At lunch, I befriended Daniel, because I think he's the reason I'm seeing the colors. I call him over to me and my friends table. He sits nexts to me, on the corner. We all say hey, then eat and go on our phones. I see a text from my friend Amy. 'So, new kid... Kinda cute, no?' I respond with an angry and a blushing emoji, and she responds with a winky face and a smirk. I glare at her from across the table.

After school, I ask my mom about this. She explains that when you start to see these colors, it means your soulmate is near. She starts telling me the name of all the colors. I go into my room to try and memorize them all. So many colors. So, apparently, my hair is... orange, my sweater is known as coral, my jeans are blue and my shoes were green.

I text Daniel. Me: Wanna hang out? Him: Sure Me: Lakeside to go swimming with friends, 3:00? Him: K Me: See you there :-) I toss on a bikini thats a color called "Maroon" I grab a towel that's baby blue, slip on red flip flops, toss on a honey colored sundress. Honey colored meant it was similar to this color called yellow, but, like, less bright, I guess. Since Daniel wasn't nearby, I didn't realize this until later. Anyways, I jump in the car, toss on some sunglasses, and drive to the beach.

By the time I get there, Rose, my freinds Rebecca, Nicole, Amy, Olivia, Alex, Cassie and Nellie are already there. By te time towels are down and shirts/ coverups are off, Daniel has gotten to the beach. "Sorry I'm late." He mumbled. We all just laugh and shrug it off. Since we live in California, the beaches are beautiful and the weather is warm. Me, Alex, Rose, Cas, Daniel and Rebecca go for a swim. I've always thought the water was just grey, but now they're a beautiful blue color. These names confuse me. Anyways, we jump into the ocean from the dock, the hot metal burning our feet.

Eventually, I lay on a plastic blowup thing, relxing, my eyes closed. I felt myself starting to tip over. I open my eyes just before I go in the water. I pop up as quick as possible, seeing Alex and Daniel were responsable. I jump onto Daniel's back, tipping him over. I grab Alex's shoulder to drag him down too. We all surface, laughing. Amy, Cass, and Olivia look at us from the sand, where they're setting up lunch. They're expressions were a mix of confused and annoyed, with a little bit amused.

After they were done setting up, we had sandwiches for lunch, sitting on the beach. Caught up in the new and amazing colors around me, I whisper to Daniel, "Do you see it too?" I ask it just loud enough for only him to hear me. He looks at me confused. "See what?" He asked with a confused smile. My heart sinks into my stomach. I sit up and turn to him slowly. He's so cute, so innocent. He doesn't know he just broke me.  I stand up, ignoring the questioning looks from my friends.  I walk into the water, only coming up for air. That way they can't see me crying. I open my eyes underwater to see Daniel staring at me. He looks like a confused puppy. I cry more, hoping he can't notice. He can. He swims over, and despite me trying to push him away, wraps me into a hug. It's sickening, seeing these beautiful colors, loving him, and him simply not feeling the same. He can't see it.
