The blue parrot from the cartoon "Rio" has gone extinct.
Remember Blu, the adorable little bird starring in the cartoon "Rio"?
If the answer is yes, unfortunately we have some really sad news to give you: the Spix macaw, a very rare species of Brazilian parrot with an ultramarine plumage, has become extinct in the wild.

There would be 8 animal species that have become extinct in this century and experts are sure that this number will grow even more in the future.

The causes of the extinction of Spix's macaw are many: the deforestation that advances in South America, illegal hunting, but above all the reckless behavior of some human beings who for years have captured these animals and then forced them into cages.

To announce his disappearance is a statistical survey conducted by international specialized in the conservation of the various avian species existing in the world.

Three specimens had been found in the Brazilian forest in 1985, but two had been illegally captured for the pet trade and all breeding attempts were unsuccessful. A last sighting in the wild was in 2016, but it is thought it was a Spix macaw escaped from captivity, while the last specimen in the wild dates back to 2000. Now even the IUCN site officially classifies it as extinct with 0 specimens of its species .

Captive animal: animal captured by humans and forced to live outside its habitat, in cages or enclosures
