Josephine awoke to the sun in her face. Her alarm was blaring and somehow she slept right through it. She groaned and realized her mom was banging on her bedroom door.

"Josephine! Josephine wake up and turn that thing off! You'll be late to orientation!" She yelled.

Josephine sighed and looked up at the ceiling. First day of freshman year. College was exactly what she was looking forward to but being away from home? She didn't realize how worried she was until this moment. She'd never been away from her mom more than at least a week. That was for a school field trip in like middle school. She hated every second of it too. Ever since her father left them when she was five, she vowed to herself that she'd never leave her mom like her dad did. That was obviously years ago and her mom was somewhat over it but she had never broken that vow and didn't really plan on it.
She got up off the bed and stretched as she turned the alarm off. She walked over to her closet and picked out a polka dot dress with blue jean overalls. She threw on her clothes and started fixing up her hair. She straightened her hair and put Bobby pins in. She looked out the window and saw how beautiful and peaceful the day look. She realized she was ready. Ready to leave her small-town and head straight to her future, even if it meant leaving her mom. Her mom could handle it and besides, she could always visit.

"I'm coming, mom! Calm down!" Josephine yelled back as she quickly started for her bedroom door.

That was when she heard the sound of someone knocking on the front door of her house. It had to be Jessica. Josephine and Jessica, known as Jess to her friends, had been friends since early childhood and all the way up to high school, now they were going to the same college. They're as close as most dream friendships were. They never kept secrets and they would both die for each other, that's as tight as it gets.

"Josephine! Jessica is here!" Her mom yelled.

Josephine's face went from just woke up to feeling like the world was finally on her side. She was excited and relieved to know someone who was gonna be in the same school. As long as she had Jess, she was going to be okay and everything would be fine.

Josephine ran down the stairs and made her way around the corner to see Jessica's bright smile waiting for her.

"There you are, sleepyhead!" She laughed.

Josephine smiled and ran into Jessica's arms as if she hadn't seen her in forever even though it had only been since yesterday.

"I'm glad you chose to bring your smart ass to Stanford with me. Wouldn't be the same without you, Josie!"

Josephine laughed and looked at Jess with an eyebrow raised.

"I'm not that smart!"

Jess laughs and mocks Josephine.

"'I'm not that smart!' Josephine, you have a 4.0 GPA and a 178 IQ!"

Josephine responded to that with an eye roll.

"I think that counts as smart!"

Josephine placed her hands on her hips and huffed.

"You could've went to any school and you chose Stanford! They know how lucky they are to have you."

Josephine nodded along and realized her mom was still in the room.

"You ready to go?" Her mom asked with a smile.

"As ready as I'll ever be."

Her mom then started to tear up. Josephine rolled her eyes.

"Mom.... We talked about this! I'm not that far, I swear! I'll come visit you when I can and we can stay in touch. Don't cry!"

"I know, I know! It's just... my little girl is all grown up."

Josephine rolled her eyes again.

"I'm literally 19. I think it's about time I went to college. I didn't get to go last year because we had to take care of grandma."

"I know. Go kick law school's butt!"

Jessica and Josephine laughed at that while walking to the car. It was jammed pack with everything for the off campus apartment. Instead of living in a dorm like most college students, Jess and Josie were moving into an apartment together and splitting the rent. Josie was the one to find it. Inside the car included her vinyl record player and the top Rock hits, all of her clothes, her books for school, her books for fun, her keyboard, and her guitar. Josie was somewhat talented and that is because she had a lot of free time on her hands. She wasn't really athletic unless you counted punching a punching bag and shooting a target. Her mom's brother, Jason, made her learn things for self defense so that is exactly what she did. She has perfect aiming skill and she is amazing in hand to hand combat.

As Josie and Jessica drove off in their car, Josie turned the radio on. The song that played as they drove was There She Goes by the La's.

"Yes! I love this song!" Josie called out with a smile.

Jess turned it up as they drove to their new life. The college life. It was awaiting their arrival like a person awaits the arrival of a train. With what seemed as welcoming arms but not everything ends happily. I guess they'll just have to see what awaits them as they come to it.

Josie had her hand out of the window moving it with the wind as Jess drove. Josie's face was covered in a smile as she watched the trees fly by. She didn't know it before but she knew it now. She was ready and prepared for the college life. She just hoped it was what suited her. Just 3 hours and 55 minutes left until seeing what was going to be her new life.

Sorry that this is short but I promise I'm gonna try to make it longer. Give me your opinion on this, I'm really looking forward to this new story. What do you think lies ahead? Do you think bad things are going to happen in the next chapter? If you've seen the show then you probably know what'll happen but just so you know, this book changes point of views some.
