The Island of Patch
Owls hooted an crickets chirped in the night as wind blew the trees. On this part of the island there were hardly any people living here. Despite this, five year old Yang Xiao Long still walked through the over grown path in the woods pulling a wagon that held her three-year old sister Ruby Rose with her. She was exhausted and a bit bruised from the branches along with her legs being scratched by thorns. But she didn't care.
Almost there Ruby, she thought. Almost there. She then saw an old sign near the end of the path. She looked at the map to see if the sign was leading to the right direction. It was. She smiled and picked up some speed. Almost there and then we'll be a family again.
After walking down the old path more, Yang finally reached her destination. It was an old abandoned house. Worn down, boards were missing and the windows were broken.
Yang smiled triumphantly that she made it. However a low growl was heard that made her smile fade. Then she saw burning red eyes in the shadows of the house's front door. Then four Beowolves, Creatures of Grimm that Yang's parents had told to stay away from, had walked out of the house. Their red eyes glowed with malicious intent as the Alpha of the pack laid it's eyes on the two children.
Yang was frozen in terror and exhaustion that she couldn't scream for help. "No...Yang...my cookies..." Ruby snored in the wagon.
The Alpha growled and the rest of the pack all lowered down to get ready to pounce. The last thing Yang saw was the Beowolves jumping towards her before a blast of blue flames shot down the Alpha. A gunshot was heard as Yang saw a large blade slice the other Grimm.
In front of Yang, a man landed. He had black hair, a gray dress coat, black pants and shoes with a red cape hanging over his shoulder to make room for the row of triangular dorsal fins that flickered on and off in a neon blue light and a long scaly tail that was curled around Yang and pulled the wagon close to him protectively. His dull crimson eyes bore the look of a predator ready to strike at its enemy.
Yang's shock wore off and was replaced by relief and joy. As luck would have it, Ruby and Yang's uncle had arrived just in time. "Uncle Qrow!" She shouted. The angry predator was gone and was replaced by a concerned uncle.
"Yang, are you alright?" he asked sternly. Yang hugged Qrow tightly as tears welled in her lilac eyes. "I'm sorry Uncle Qrow!" she sobbed. "Hey, it's okay. You and Ruby are alright." Qrow said comfortingly. "I-I just wanted my family back together..." Yang said. Qrow sighed, saddened by what Yang had said. "Come on Yang, let's go home." He said. He heard the noise of flapping wings and turned to see a raven with crimson red eyes. Qrow frowned. This wouldn't have happened if you stuck around, he thought angrily as his spines glowed again. The bird stayed on the branch before it flew off.
He placed Yang on the wagon and pulled it to the direction of home. Ruby stirred and opened her eyes. Yang turned to her and hugged the younger girl. "Yang?" she said confused. Yang still felt guilty as she once again began crying. "I won't do that again Ruby." Yang said. "I promise, I will always keep you safe."
Qrow glanced at the two sisters sadly. Yang was too young to make that promise and yet his sister's actions caused it to happen. I'll help you keep that promise Yang. As long as I can breath, I will make both of you are safe.
