For dinner, I had ordered the cheapest dish of the menu which was still very expensive. Hanna was trying to persuade me to have what I wanted but all I really wanted, was to get out of here which I knew was never going to happen.

The waiter or waitress who was getting my dish did the strangest thing. He or she threw something at me from a distance.

"No!" I heard Miranda scream and she jumped on top of me. I landed on the floor and a knife lay beside me.

"Alex! Are you alright?" Hanna asked as she pulled me up and hugged me.

"It's okay, Hanna. I'm alright." I looked around for the person who threw the knife but he or she just ran out the door.

"I will sue this place for what just happened." There was a lot of murmur in the crowd and then a woman, probably the manager came.

"What's going on-oh," she said and then saw what happened, "Oh my dear. Are you alright? What happened?" Hanna quickly told her what had just happened. "Oh my dear, I'm so sorry but that woman-"

"Woman?" I repeated.

"Yes. She was a woman. So that woman doesn't work here. I know the name of each and every employee who works here by face and name but I didn't recognize that woman."

"Maybe she was a new employee-" Miranda started.

"No. There have been no new additions to the staff for six months. Oh well, I must get going. Again, I'm really sorry for what happened but there's nothing I can do. Excuse me." She left. She had been rather in a hurry,

"Forget her. She left because she doesn't want us to complain to the police. Then no one will come to this place." Hanna said.

After that, we left and I refused to even look at their faces. We went home silently. They knew that I was in no condition to talk. Before I went to bed, they hugged me and wished me a belated happy birthday.

"Why belated?" I asked. I felt like I was speaking after days.

"Because you were born thirteen years and twenty minutes ago while we were in the car. We didn't want to say anything because you were so mad." Hanna said. I honestly didn't know how to react. Was I supposed to be angry that they didn't tell me exactly when I turned thirteen or was I supposed to say 'I don't care' and continue with what I was doing which is living my life. I decided on shrugging and acting like I didn't hear them which is exactly what I did.

"Are you still mad at us for the dinner?" Miranda asked. The sadness in her voice broke my heart. No matter what they had done today, they were still my best friends. It wasn't like they had betrayed me and made my birthday the worst one ever. They had just wanted me to have fun. Though I won't admit it, it wasn't like the day had been terrible because they had pampered me. There were still parts of today that I loved, like spending time with my friends and parts that I hated, like almost being killed with that knife. Before I could even start thinking about who the person might be, I pushed it out of my mind Although I hadn't liked it when they gave me the gifts, I had loved to see the smiles on their faces as they gave it to me.

"Of course I forgive you. You know that I could never stay mad at you for long." All of us hugged each other.

"Happy birthday, Alex. For the last time today." Both of them said and then I went to sleep.
