17. The One Known as the Ace

You smiled at your phone, arguing back and forth with Kuroo. You found the male to be kinda funny, and he didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.

Practice was going on. Just basic things. Beside you, Kiyoko was taking notes, your knees touching. You took turns taking notes, allowing the other to have a break or get some other things involving the club done.

"Rrolling... THUNDAAAAAAHH!!" Noya yells as he does a rolling receive.

Silence.

Noya looks at you, beaming proudly as his awesome move.

"Way to go, yuu!" You yell, clapping.

"Uh, okay. Nice dig," Suga says.

"That was just a normal rolling dig, bro! Where's the thunder at?!" Tanaka laughs, pointing at Noya.

"Why did he shout something?" Kageyama looks genuinely confused.

Tsukki and Tadashi start laughing. Daichi chimes in from further away. "Hey, now! No yelling out strange stuff while you're in motion. You could hurt yourself."

"Kageyama!! Tsukishima!! Yamaguchi!! You three are in trouble now!! Get over here and kneel.. no, sit... no, just make yourselves shorter than me!!"

Hinata sparkles and jumps up and down. "Ooh! Ooh! Teach me how to do that! Ooh!"

Takeda slides open the gym door. "Hey, everyone. Gather round!"

"Yessir!"

Kiyoko sets down the notebook and pencil and you grab her hand on the way over. She blushes and looks down at your connected hands. Lately you had been a lot more touchy, but she didn't mind for some reason. It wasn't pervy or weird, it was comfortable, like you were silently reassuring her or comforting her. She kind of felt like she could maybe call you a friend. A real one. Just maybe.

"All of you are planning on doing that again this year, right?"

Everyone looks confused.

"A training camp over golden week!"

"Yes. We still need a lot of practice on a lot of things."

"Good! You see... on the last day of golden week! I've put together another practice game for us!!"

You grin, watching the others delighted expressions.

"Whoa! That's awesome, Take-chan! What gives?!" Tanaka yells.

"Great! Who are we playing?!" Suga yells too.

"They're a Tokyo school, and I hear they used to be very good. It's Nekoma High School."

"Nekoma in Tokyo?"

"Nekoma? You the mean the school that was supposedly our biggest rival for many years?"

"They very same! If I recall right, they're known as... the cats."

Briefly, you felt like the name was familiar, but you couldn't remember where you had heard it from.

"Yeah! We learned about them last year. See, our coach and theirs were supposed to be big rivals, like, forever. So they'd always hold practice games together." Tanaka says.

"I hear both our teams were equally good and played well off each other, so their practice games were well worth the long trip. In fact, they were such good games that people in the area would come by and watch. A must watch game!! It was the cats vs. the crows in an all out dumpster battle! Or something... a lot of us talked about how we'd like to try playing them sometime." Suga explains.
