He opened his eyes lazily...looking at me and then keith then Luke who was sitting on the floor. "We need to embark on our mission, " he said. I felt superior having managed to stole the pouch last evening. Today am hoping to gain something big.
We strolled on the streets hovering like hungry hyenas. My stomach was empty and now hunger circulated my nerves. My hair was unkept, I forgot to carry a comb and my piece of mirror which was always under my lockers. We ladies we are unpredictable.. We never believe in ourselves and that's why ladies carry mirrors in their handbags, girls keep wasting time in mirrors trying to confirm their pretty faces..trying to convince God to add them more beauty.
I loved myself during those days but now I have started hating myself.
Past the traffic jam looking each corner which spot was the best. The morning sun was rising above the sky. With its rays brightly penetrating the streets. People are moving up down. I don't when the streets will be at still with no one. Just the buildings looking at each other.
I needed to bask a little bit and convince my instenstines by sending them something.I will buy using the penny I worked for. In the Bible scriptures says that you have to sweat for you to eat. "Ni jasho langu" I mumbled. He didn't look at me.
"So you are going to ignore me like this" I lamented at Mark who was busy staring at a certain couple alighting from a Mercedes Benzx.
"Relax, am searching for a prey, remember we are on a mission" I answered him."But I feel weary... "let's sit by the bench as Luke and Keith identifys what will be for today."
'Hope we will find you here' said Luke. We Were sitting on the benches near Hilton Hotel and opposite Dedan Kimathi Street. The rich walked in the hotels their pockets bulging east west direction. I used to know of the earth that bulges not knowing that there are other earths on the same planet.
Their stomachs protruded outside
symbolizing the wealth they possessed and the funds taken from the government that were meant for the poor. Either by corruption or grabbing."Let's walk past that cafe" he said after walking past those buildings.
He bought me hot soup with kaimati while him he just stood there looking at me. Enjoy your meal.
What about you? What are you going to take. Will you stand up like that.. I asked him.
"Am good dear, just hurry let's walk away from here."
The 'kibanda was crowded, flies flying here there. They were meant to welcome visitors. In this Cafe only those with no penny comes here. But classes were different,,, but there is this class that is already full I mean full to the brim. Our class.. the class of the poor. We lack teachers whom we can emulate from, those whom can be our role models and that's why we do things by ourselves.
The other class is neither full nor empty. But only countable people. They are the ones who don't want to associate with the poor simply because they are of high levels.Appreciate nature and people's diversity. But again, 'Does God really exist? I started questioning Mark.
If he really does I could not be here. I could be in school with others preparing for my final exams. I uttered bitterly as tears ran down my cheeks.
"Stop it! God is there and stays within us. That's why you are alive" Mark comforted me.
After that meal we walked towards where the meeting point was to be held.
"Let's hurry we are late, they maybe looking for us"It was a coincidence, we arrived just in time with them.
'How about it' I asked them. Be ready the base is set. But this is not the right time.
We need to wait for the rushing hour.. That's late in the evening. If we may try now we may not succeed.
'You mean all this time we are going to stare at each other?
"Actually no, we shall keep walking past the streets... You need to identify this place well Velma you are just new in town.
