Dear Zola,

I start. I sigh. Zola's never gonna get this letter.

"C'mon, Keely. You know you're too chicken to ever send this letter. You didn't even address the last one," I gripe to one of my friends.

"Wow, Gin. That's SO fair. You grumbled and complained through the last one, you barely did any actual writing!"

"Keely Henricks! Ginevra Galemen! Stop it this instant!" My friend  Luna, scolds us as she plays peacemaker.

"Looney, shut up. Ginny's right, and Zoey's long gone. Keely's also right though. Gin could be less of a Bella," Argues June.

"Wow, June. I don't complain or cry that much" Bella whines, contradictory to her statement.

I sit back and let my friends argue. I just start thinking. Our parents, all of them, decided to name us after their favorite characters. Most of our names are from books, except Zola's. Luna and I are both "from" Harry Potter, her being named after Luna Lovegood and me after Ginny Weasley. Keely is from a book called One of Us is Lying, where she is a very very minor character. Bella is the main character in Twilight, and June's dad was responsible for choosing a book and character, so she's from The Last Kids on Earth as June del Toro. Zola's name is from Grey's Anatomy, the show, so she's just special. Honestly, we're all just like our characters.

I'm sickly outgoing, Luna's bossy and eccentric, Keely's pretty and far too nice (but will stick up for herself), June's feministic and bitchy, Bella's whiny and dependant, and Zola is just kind of there for now.

I feel really bad for Keely though. She had a thing for Zola. Before Zola could come out, they moved away. Zola calls Keely too. That's all good, but Keely wants to be romantic or whatever and write letters. Ew. I mean, I have a boyfriend, Dean Petty, but we prefer hanging out in person. Speaking of Dean though, I have a date. And therefore, no time to help Keely write her letter.

"Okay girls. Everyone but Bella out!" I kick all the girls out of my room, sending Luna to hers. Bella, however, has turned into my date-prep-committee. Bella grabs my clothes out of my closet. I scrunch up my nose at them. Long, blue, floral? What part of me screams that? Bella reads my face.

"I know right? Is this Matilda's?" We laugh at my older sister's outfit preferences. I know what I want to wear, actually. I just need to... find it. I hunt through my closet for my yellow sundress and my docs. I love wearing styles from my grandma's 'prime'. The early 2000s.

Dianne (My mom) and Rebecca (her best friend and Luna's mom) raised us (Luna and me) together. My dad, Joe, left my mom just before I was born, leaving Dianne alone at 20 with my then-five older sister, Matilda. Yeah, I know. My mom had my sister at 15. Let's move on. Rebecca was artificially inseminated and has been single her whole life until she met Danny. When Luna was three, Rebecca married Danny. Luna now has a younger brother named Jonah.  My mom met Danny's brother, Hogan. Inevitably, they fell in love and were married two years later. Sounds like a screwed-up fairy tale, huh?

Since I already went through almost half of our stories, I may as well go through the rest.

Keely has a pretty normal life. She was born in 2021. She lives with her mom, Tiara, her dad Hal, and her brother and sister, Tim and Talia. They're twins.

June was born in 21 as well and lives mostly with her dad, Kendrick. Her parents went through a "painless divorce". She visits her mom, Caraline in South Dakota three to four times a year. She has a little brother, Halley, who has the same arrangements as her.

Bella was born in 22 and has four siblings, Allie, Marcus, Milly, and Hannah. Her mom Eliza is a brain surgeon, and her dad Thomas is a very successful lawyer. They live in a really big house just outside of town.

We were all born in either 21 or 22. My sister Matilda was born in 18, so she was really little when the pandemic hit America. I was born as we were coming out of it in 22. I feel bad for the people who had to suffer through a pandemic so long ago. Almost 15 years now.

I snap out of my trance as Bella arranges my hair into a summery 'do. I smear small amounts of makeup on my face. I love Luna, Keely, and June, but Bella is my best friend. It's so easy to talk to her and, toxically, complain about the other girls. I really do love them all so much but they get on my nerves. Bella, whiny as she may get, is so easy to be around. As I realize I'm thinking in circles, I also realize that Dean's supposed to be here in five minutes. I put on my brown platform heels, kiss Dianne, Luna, and Rebecca goodbye, and wait behind the door for Dean.

A note from Silver:

Well, there's the end of chapter one! Next, I'll be writing from Luna's POV. Side note, she has a thing... with Dean...

You'll figure it out. You're a smart person, I'm sure. Or, save you the mathematics, just read the next chapter.

If you know me in real life, please don't use my real name in the comments! I know it says it on one of my covers, but hopefully, people don't pay too much attention to all that... ;)

If you haven't already, check out my other book, The Moon Shines Brightly at Night! I can't just write one thing at a time, why would I do that? Ooh, backpedaling a bit, if you know me in real life, remind me to write at least a chapter of one of these stories! I start the coolest sounding stories and abandon them a chapter or two in... <unnamed force of nature> gets it. Well, they've seen me do it time and time again... shh!

Please, if there's anything you see in my writing that could use a little TLC, please comment. If it seems like I'm arguing with you, it's likely something I did on purpose. Still, feedback is always welcome.

Just a final note, I don't own any of the characters my girls are named after. Their original characters belong to their authors and creators.
