It was a beautiful sunny day in Marblehead, Massachusetts. The sun was shinning and the ocean was calm. In her last few minuets of last period, Jasmine White sat in Geometry class. Bored, she passed notes to her best friend, El.
“Are you excited?” El wrote just as the bell rang. Students filled out of the classroom, chatting with friends about their afternoon plans. Some were headed to sports practice, others home to study. Jasmine grabbed her books from inside her desk, slid them into her backpack, and headed out into the hall with El.
“So...You excited girly?” El eagerly questioned her. The hallway was crowded as students collected their books from their lockers.
“Excited for...?” Jasmine asked El, confused. They reached their lockers and began sorting through what books they needed and what could stay in their locker.
“Um, The Grammy’s of course! In like one week. How could someone forget about a thing as big as this? I mean c’mon how-” El was shocked, as she began her rant which Jasmine interrupted. Jasmine chuckled to herself. She hadn’t forgotten, how could she? It would be the best night of her life. Standing on that massive stage. The same stage dozens of her idols had and would be on that very night. It would be her moment to shine in front of celerities who had been to thousands of other award shows and preformed all over the world. She couldn’t wait to see the “wow” and “awe” in all their faces as soon as she got on that stage and did her thing. And in her wildest dreams could she think that their was a possibility she would be bringing home her very own Grammy.
“I haven’t forgotten, Elie. Just stressed about all these test I have to take before.” Jasmine checked over her assignment notebook.
“Oh don’t worry ‘bout that. You’ll do fine, Jazzy!” She reassured her. “I just cannot figure out how you aren’t like freakin’ out? I’d be a mess!”
Jasmine closed her locker as El put her science textbook into her backpack. Jasmine never got nervous before shows, she absolutely loves the adrenaline rush she gets when on stage preforming. But, for an event as huge as this, she knew she’d get some butterflies in her stomach before she hit the stage.
“The freak out is sure to come,” they laughed. El closed her locker and they headed outside. The High School was very busy this time of day. Students packing into old, smelly school buses, kids running to the fields for practice, and the carpool line was always very long. Last year, it was so hectic a freshmen got hit by a car. He broke his leg, but is fine now.
“Your going to be a show stopper - I know it!” El supported Jasmine. Jasmine was bummed because she was only allowed one ticket and because the show is so far away, her mother is coming with her. Which isn’t a problem, she adores her mom and wants her to see the miraculous moment in person, but she always wanted El to be rocking out in the crowd when this chance came, so for it to finally be here and El has to watch on the TV, Jasmine’s a bit sad. El understood perfectly though and said she would have a complete jam sesh at her house.
“Thanks, hopefully everything will pull through.” Jasmine replied. El’s mom pulled up and they said their good-byes for the day, even though they would be texting each other the very next moment. That’s how life with the two best friends is. They couldn’t live a second without talking to each other. How they don’t run out of things to say is a mystery to us all.
Once El was gone, Jasmine started her walk to the dance studio she spent most of her time at. It was located in the middle of town, a small tan building next to a work out place for women. The interior had two dance studios on the first floor, as well as a main room for office work and a bathroom. The bottom level was strictly for Jasmine.
