"Run"
_ _ _ _________ _ _ _We sat in silence, watching the monsters that still lingered with careful eyes. I had finally patched Dream up after a wave of new-won energy washed over me. I couldn't help but glance at Dream from time to time, telling myself that it was only beacause I was worried about his health.
Well, more like I tried to tell myself.
My face reddened every time I saw his messy hair and veiny arms that had been exposed due to him folding his sleeves up.
"El, stop checking out my friend and sleep. You look...exhausted, to say the least.",
Nick's quiet whisper made my eyes widen as I looked at him with shock. He chuckled at my face before nudging to the tree trunk. My gaze wandered to it, contemplating if I should take a quick nap or not. I felt my eyes droop slowly as my body started to weigh down on itself, the exhaustion and suspense from the past few hours finally catching up on me.
A little yawn escaped my mouth before I climbed over cautiously, not wanting to slip and die. After I had arrived, I leaned against the trunk slowly as a deep slumber took over me, sending me into the calm waves of Dreamland.
_ . * . _ . * . _
Hot flames licked at her skin, burning it and making the little girl cry.
"Mommy!",
her helpless wails echoed through the flaming building as she clutched the camera around her small hands tighly."Mommy where are you!",
she cried out, tears making her choke and sob as she walked around helplessly. The sound of wood breaking above her made her glance up, only to meet with a hoffifying sight. A piece of the ceiling hung at it's last few inches before it broke off, descending straight onto the girl.
"AAAH!",
A shrill screech burst through her lips as she watched it fall down."Wake up."
An audible gasp escaped my lips as I rose from my sleep, shivering like a fish exposed to the air. My eyes wandered down immediately, watching as the zombies stirred slightly, obviously having heard my loud gasp.
I sucked in a harsh breath and tried to calm down as I leaned back again, wondering about my weird dream.
"Was it really a dream?"
What-
"Guys, they're finally moving.",
Nick exclaimed happily as he watched the zombies beneath us finally walk away with eager eyes.My gaze moved down as I observed how they actually started to unfreeze from their stiff positures, slowly walking away and into the same direction. A minority of the horde however stayed in place.
"If we stay really careful, we might make it out of here.",
Dream explained quietly."We can't stay here anymore, we won't get anywhere near the city if we keep staying up here.",
George's thick accent made it's way to my ears.Nick and me nodded in approval before we all huddled together, wanting to discuss our next few steps.
"We'll climb down and only start walking when everyone has arrived, okay? Make sure to be careful as to not slip and attract everyone's attention. We'll have to walk slowly and make as less sound as possible and I'll be leading the way.",
Dream informed us with authority tinting his voice before he looked at Nick."We'll climb down together since I'll need someone who watches my back while I help Eleanor and Geroge down."
They nodded at eachother before Dream and Nick turned around, starting to make their way down.
Cold sweat coated my neck as I thought about everything that could possibly go wrong.
What if someone dies?
Nauseous took over me as I pictured someone's death.
What if I die?
A knot formed itself in my stomach as watched Nick getting ready to follow Dream.
The sun slowly started to rise as the first few streaks of sunshine broke through the sky. However, it didn't help with the eerie silence and thick tension that surrounded us as we climbed down with thumping hearts.
I nearly cried out in relief when solid groud met my feet and thanked god for allowing me to finally have something stable to stand on. The hair in my neck rose in fear as I watched Nick and Dream kill everything that got in a 5 feet radius around us.
The sun shone brightly by the time George arrived, making the snow melt from the leaves and drip down. We sneaked behind Dream slowly as we walked through the last few zombies who've been standing still the whole time, making them look like corpses that had been hung to the trees.
I shivered at the thought of them jumping at us, catching us off guard and ripping everyone into shreds.
Deadly silence surrounded us as we tried to get away from a possible painful death.
*crack*
My eyes widened and my heartbeat accelerated as I whipped back, watching George remove his feet from the twig he just stepped on with the same reaction. Our gazes quickly wandered to the zombies that stood around us.
Their heads moved slowly as they opened their eyes, waking up from their daydream and letting out little groans.
At first only one, then two and then we had been circeld around by a group of around 35 zombies.
"Guys, there is no way out other than fighting.",
Dream's words echoed in the background of my head as I was to occupied with thinking about the monsters that were walking at us with full speed.George pulled out his daggers, Nick pulled out his sword and shield and Dream loaded his crossbow; and me?
Well, I just stood in the middle as I watched them kill one zombie after another, vermillion and black blood splashing around and tinting everyones clothes. The smeel of rotten flesh and metallic blood stung in my nose as I watched the three work their way through the zombies - everything seemed to go just fine.
Nick blocked their attacks with his shield before he cut through their skulls with clean swings. George threw his knives skillfully, pulled them out and repeated his moves flawlessly, and Dream was being, well, Dream.
He loaded his crossbow rapidly and killed the remaing zombies with his knives.
Although they looked dangerous, Nick even smiling through the whole progress, as they moved in perfectly timed and precise motions; they looked like a Dreamteam.
Everything seemed to be in our favor.
"AH!"
I was brought back to reality by a loud scream. I just noticed how I had been shivering uncontrolably the whole time. Tears streamed down my face as I just realized how near the zombies actually had been.
My head whipped back, only to see my nightmare come true.
There he was, Nick, as he laid on the floor whimpering, clutching the big gash that streched across his chest, and a zombie towering above him, ready to kill it's prey.
