Jahniqui's POV

So I lied. Sue me. I was far from the airport but who do he think he is...God? Hell no! My little walk in the park just had to be ruined by the nightmare himself. Sometimes he just annoy the hell out of me.

Am so good at my job that it's slowing becoming a part of my twisted life- 'lying'. Basically that's what we as lawyers do.

Speaking of twisted life, wait until I reach home to grandma and my big brother. There comes the drama i've been running away from since the day i turned 18 and went off to college. My family, or rather what's left of it, is filled with pure affliction.

That day still remains firmly cemented in my mind as if it was yesterday. The day everything i loved and cherished were forcefully taken from me. My parents. I don't know exactly what happened but every time I would ask, I was either ignored or my grandmother would initiate a subject change.

From there on then, I began to shut people out of my life. Call me bitter, but I haven't had the closure I need to move on and be whole again. The only person that knows me to some extent is Leanna. Am scared for life. Nobody has a perfect life. Not even those who think they do.

Xavier, my big brother is another story all by itself. The guy only two years older than me and act like he all mighty and sh*t. He was one of the world's youngest billionaire. Or so they say. He is the CEO of Valentine's Corporation back in California. According to the magazine article I read, his company was booming in the hotel and shipping sector.  I do admit that the guy knew how to make an Armani suit look ravishing. But he too has his own demons to conquer. He also, has distanced himself from our family home.

Anyway enough about him. I turned off my phone after I hung up on the sorry excuse I call a boss. Here i am expressing immense hatred for the guy when all in all i drool over him at work.

Determination kicked in, and that is to not bring any of the work stress with me to Placentia, California. Oh yeah, that's where I call home. And I'd rather be there than here in New York any day of the year.

*****

By the time I reached my apartment it was already 5 p.m. Needless to say that I wasted so much time in the park, but it did help me to relax and clear my racing mind.

I plopped down on my white leather sofa after I got a glass of wine from the bottle I had left over in the kitchen. Taking out my laptop to book my flight for tomorrow, you'd never guess what caught my eye.

"D'Andre Johnson- owner of Johnson's law firm caught trashing his office by his receptionist after a brawl between him and one of his top associates in a board meeting this morning."  The article's opening sentence read.

"What?" I sneered. How the backside did that leak to the public? Didn't the guy have a publicist to take care of stuff like that? Now what if the entire world finds out it's me.....then i'm tarnished. This man wants to drag me down hill with him, but he's got a next thing coming.

Not giving it a second thought I then went on the airline website. Eyeing the page intently, I saw that there was indeed a flight out to Placentia, California 9 p.m. tonight. My subconscious smiled sheepishly because there was no way I was going to miss this.

(A few hours later......)

"Ladies and gentlemen good morning, please prepared yourself for landing. Were are a couple of minutes away from the beautiful state of California." The captain spoke over the intercom. Yes, finally am home after so much years.

You must be thinking I had no contact with my family but I did. They even came to my graduation two years ago. I wonder what it would be like to return because there must have been changes.

So wrapped up in my thoughts that I had no idea the plane had touched down. It was only when the flight attendant began waving her hand frantically in front of me that I came back to earth.

Checking out of the airport without any further awkward confrontations, I made my way to the entrance. My grandmother said she wouldn't be able to pick me up so yes i'll have to take a cab. Great just great!  I roamed my eyes over the entrance where persons were anxiously awaiting loved ones before I got out.

To my surprise there stood my big head brother, I practically ran towards him but his back was turned. This gave me the perfect opportunity to jump on him like a jockey mounting his horse. And so I did, he groaned due to the sudden jolt. I giggled at his reaction.

"Hey....you know I hate it when you do that." He complained while I was on his back.

"What are you talking about? You love it when I do this!" I felt him stiffen a bit at my words.

"Niqui?" There was no way a deaf could miss the surprise in his voice. I can't believe he didn't recognize me. What a shame. I pulled myself from his back and he turned around in one swift move.

To say he was over analyzing the sight infront of him would be an understatement. He looked me up and down with his bulging blues eyes. Those he got from mom. Slightly recovering from his shock he opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off.

"Don't tell me you don't even remember the voice of your own sister?" I said my californian accent poped up as i placed my hand over my heart in a fake hurt.

"How could I ever forget! Am just surprised to see you. What are you doing here?" He responded and asked with his baritone voice.

"Got suspended so I decided to visit for a week." I shrugged like it was nothing to be alarmed about. His facial expression was priceless to say the least. He grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me back and forth. "You what?! I bet that big blabber mouth of yours was the cause of that." He yelled.

"Oh it's nothing. Stop being so melodramatic." I returned. "So tell me, what are you doing here at this time of the morning? Seems like you meeting a hot date!" At that he smirked.

"Am actually meeting a client but he has this younger sister who has a crush on me..." He blushed. Oh my god i never thought i'd see the day. He continues "and does that every time he brings her with him on a business trip." I was totally confused. Picking up on my lack of understanding he chose to enlighten me. "You know....jump on my back thing." He said jotting his thumb over his shoulder. Ok now I get it.

"Ok, am going now. I guess I'll see at home."  I smiled and gave him a hug which he returned.

But to my surprise the client he was meeting was none other than Mr. Michael Kelly. This man is every where. I stood beside my brother's side as they exchanged pleasantries. Then his attention focused on me. He gave his all knowing mega watt grin. Turning to my brother he asked. "You know her?" Looking from my brother to me.

"Oh you mean this little beauty spot here?" Xavier asked throwing his hand around my shoulder casually. "Yeah she's my sister. Why? You like her?" Wiggling his eyebrows. I jabbed him in his side with my elbow but it didn't phase him.

"No!" Mr. Kelly said. Ok thats not much of a bomber. "Am supposed to be her client but she got suspended. But my case isn't in for a next two weeks so she is fine." He continued.

This gained me a disappointed look from my brother. "Ok, But what do you mean you don't like her?" My brother pursued. Michael began to baffle with his words so I decided to put the poor guy out of his misery.

"No need to be ashamed I know you're gay anyways." And with that I dragged my suitcase towards the parked cabs.

I left them standing dumbfounded. Both their mouths hanging wide in an "O".
