He stood at the edge of the building, peering down into the inky depths below. Strangely, he was seemingly unafraid of the possibility of death. Staring out into the skylights, his face was a picture of calm. The cool night breeze ruffled his hair as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"The time has arrived."
Below him on the streets, a lone boy lay sobbing over the prone unconscious body of a man. The mysterious shadow above merely gazed down coolly, unaffected by the scene his actions has caused. His job was done.
"Isn't it strange that they cry when death arrives when they had always expected it? It is the end and yet the beginning but still they are blind to the truth?" His beautiful companion approached from the shadows, emerging beside him like an angel that fell from heaven.
He merely chuckles, without humor. At such a young age, his eyes does not suit him. They tell a dark tale, of much death and terror that made him the way he is now.
Some distance away, faint sirens of the police cars could be heard. Rising from his perch, he stood up lithely.
"Time to go."
His companion nodded. Together, they disappeared into the night.

My head filled with the familiar buzzing after the surge of energy left my body. As much as I would like to return to the comfort of my bed, there were matters to attend to. Walking into the brightly lit headquarters of Nexus, my mood darkened as I spotted Vincenzo. Keeping my expression composed, I stared into his eyes steadily. One of the first lesson I had learnt when I was requited was to never show emotions. Emotions are weaknesses and in his line of job, weakness are deadly.
"Croix. I see you're back." He spoke, his face giving nothing away.
I nodded curtly in acknowledgment.
Glad to see you didn't get killed.
His voice sounded in my mind, taunting and mocking. Refusing to rise to the bait, I showed no sign of hearing his annoying voice reververating in my mind as I strode confidently toward the elevator.
Oh, and by the way, he wants to see you...
Although Vincenzo did not mention his name, I felt my shoulders stiffen slightly as the frustration and fury rose up within me. As the elevator doors close, I leaned against the walls and sighed deeply. I knew what he wanted. Most probably another top secret mission that I have to do alone and dangerous as hell too.
Striding towards the familiar high oak doors, I cannot help but feel a slick sense of dread fill me. Rapping sharply on the wood with a false confidence I do not feel, I entered his study. I lowered my gaze as my father's steely gray eyes pierced me.
