Chapter 9

*3rd point of view*

"Okay, so you are literally a Phoenix in human form?" Shinobu asked. Still unsure of the entire situation.

Hinotori nodded as she petted Douma's head, which was on her lap.

The three demon slayers and demon were currently at one of the Wisteria Houses.

After convincing that the Upper Moon was harmless, Hinotori had explained that he had hid the lower ranked slayers in a cave of ice to protect them in case of a different demon appearing in the village.

Apparently, Hinotori had been to the village before and found Douma. Then they collaborated and took out the lower moon that was killing teenaged girls.

The Kocho sisters were still iffy about having an Upper Moon right in front of them but if the strongest Hashira said he was safe, then he safe.

But then the Phoenix Hashira looked down gloomily, surprising the sisters and the demon.

"Being immortal isn't a gift. It's a curse created by my first brother....."

Kanae tilted her head, "A curse?"

The ravenette sighed then lifted up her hand and put it close to her mouth, gesturing to be quiet.

"Everything I tell you will be kept a secret, understand?"

Kanae and Shinobu nodded while Douma listened silently.

*Flash Back*

About 1,000 years ago, two siblings were diagnosed with terminal illness.

The older sister, had excepted her fate.

The younger brother, however, resented the idea of death.

So he had hired a doctor to find a cure for both himself and his sister.

The brother would die at age 20 while his older sister would only live to about 21.

And with them having a one year age difference, both would die at any time.

When the doctor had created the cure, the brother had immediately used it.

Even if it did cure his terminal illness, the brother couldn't walk under sunlight and he had the need to kill and eat humans.

Not only that, but his physical appearance had changed. His finger nails were longer and almost like claws. And his eyes were blood red and dilated.

He tried to get his sister to use the cure, but she always rejected it.

Always saying that the illness was her punishment for being born.

Being the only and eldest daughter of the family, the parents and relatives absolutely resented the sister.

When they discovered that she had a terminal illness, the parents nearly jumped in joy.

The brother was cruel to almost everyone but his sister. So when he was finally consumed by his bloodlust, he had killed his parents first.

When the sister saw him covered in their parents blood, she wasn't mad nor scared.

She simply asked why he did it.

"Because they would have gotten in the way of my plan."

He said in reply.
