One Last Warning: Spoilers for Stone Ocean, and this will not be exactly a love story.
I would leave campus in between classes. Normally, I would see this man with a hat and a book. He was always reading a book about marine life. I've seen him around, but this was the only time, I saw him sitting in a calm state on a bench in the park.
Finally, I took the courage to talk to him. I walked over to him and introduced myself. "Hello, I am (y/n). I've seen you coming and going from class. I am currently in between classes. Is it okay for me to sit beside you during my break?"
The man didn't say much. He just nodded and said, "Go ahead." He continued reading. I got nothing from him. He just continued reading. Yep, it was a book about sea life.
I sat down on the edge of the bench and sat my things down.
Since he seemed engrossed in the book, I didn't say anything as I ate my snack. Occasionally, I would glance over at the man. I hope that he didn't notice that as I did that way too frequently.
Something about him was intimidating, but he was very interesting. Unfortunately, I felt something sad about him.
After a while, I checked my watch and noticed it was time for me to leave for my next class. I sighed and gathered my things.
Just as I stood up, so did the man. I stumbled awkwardly as he noticed I was doing the same thing.
I laughed nervously, "Time for my class. Nice meeting you!" I quickly walked away without looking back. I didn't say much and felt embarrassed, but something in me wanted to do more next time.
Maybe... I don't know... ASK FOR HIS NAME?
☆☆☆
Two days later, the man was there at the bench once again. He was reading yet another marine life book.
I went over to him and sat down beside him. I greeted, "Good afternoon, um..." I was hoping to inadvertently get his name, but it felt more awkward than anything.
He looked up from his book and simply said, "Jotaro."
"Jotaro," I said testing his name. Good afternoon, Jotaro."
He nodded and continued reading.
I took out a snack and began eating. After about five minutes, I held the bag towards Jotaro and asked, "Would you like some?" I had no idea what possessed me to ask him that, but at least it was goldfish(?)
A little exhale came from his lips that faintly sounded like a laugh. He looks back at me and said, "No."
I quickly said, "Okay." I glanced over at his book, then at his shirt. He was reading about starfishes, and his shirt's design looked similar to said starfish on the current he was looking at.
I asked, "Do you like starfishes?" I pointed to his book then to his shirt. "It looks really cool." His shirt may have been a different color scheme, but it had the same pattern. The rest of his outfit matched with the starfish since he was wearing purple and green.
Jotaro grabbed the brim of his hat and pulled it down to slightly cover his eyes. He seemed to perk up a bit from mentioning starfish. "Yes."
"Can I see-um sorry I'm overstepping my boundaries, aren't I?"
"Uh," he started. He turned the book to me exposing the page he was reading. He simply said, "This is one of my favorite starfishes."
"Cool," I said.
"I wrote a thesis on them a while back."
I lifted my eyebrows up in admiration. "So you know a lot about them?"
