I sat up, feeling the cold ground beneath my shaking hands. The howling of wolves ringing in my ears. My eyes are open but I'm blind. I started to stand, fearing my legs would buckle. The familiar crunching of leaves under my feet tells me I'm in the forest. Though that's where the familiarities end. I spin around panicked. Desperately trying to figure out my location or any hint of what's going on. I held out both my arms in front of me and stubbled through the darkness till I hit something hard. The rough bark on the tree was a warm welcome and I lean against it, thankful for the support in the darkness. A cold wind blows through my hair and I take a deep breath. In the distance, a flash of light shoots into the sky like a rocket and explodes with light.
"I can finally see." I thought as the sky flooded with light. I look up and see thousands of tiny stars flooding the night sky like I've never seen before. The moon beaming down upon the earth like a giant lantern in the sky. Suddenly the forest was alive around me. I could hear squirrels chittering and bugs buzzing around my head. A deafening howl erupted behind me and echoed through the trees. I covered my ears and crouched beside the base of the tree.
"what the hell was that?!" I thought. I peeked around the tree and jumped back. Right in front of me, not 3 feet away, was an extremely large wolf. It had black fur and was the size of a large bear. I stumbled back and tripped on a root, landing on my butt right in front of this wolf. It tilted its head to the side and stared at me with these dark eyes. They looked almost human.
The wolf nodded its head and grunted. Then one by one five more wolves came out of the bushes. They were all different in their own way. One was grey, one was brown, some were leaner, and some were more muscular. They all had two things in common though, they were huge, and they all had these dark, human-like eyes that felt like they were reading your every thought.
One stood out from the rest though. This wolf had chocolate-colored fur and bright green eyes. The kind of green the grass is in an untouched meadow on a mid-afternoon summer's day. Not a cloud in the sky and the sun shining fiercely. The kind of green that takes you back to a happier time. With the sweet smell of fresh-cut grass in the air. It was beautiful. I was mesmerized and before I could tell myself to stop, I felt my feet carry me towards the pack of giant wolves. For a moment I forgot about the other wolves around me and locked eyes with the green-eyed wolf. Its eyes looked kind and gentle. Before I knew it, I was only a few feet away from the wolf. My hand reaching out to run my fingers through its fur. Suddenly the large black wolf howled, knocking me out of my trance. I drew my hand back quickly. The wolves all turned and bolted through the trees. Leaving nothing but the echoes of their howls behind ringing in my ears.
I was stunned. Forcing my feet to move, I ran, and ran, and ran. I ran until my legs couldn't move any longer. I stumbled, shutting my eyes tightly I anticipated my body to hit the cold ground, but it never came. I opened my eyes to see the ground rushing beneath me, faster than I could ever move.
"I'm flying?! What is happening?!" I thought as I see trees whooshing past me. I look up to see the beautiful face of a boy. He couldn't have been any older than I was, but he looked like he was made of stone. I'm not flying, we're running. Running so impossibly fast the trees look like a blur. His arms are hard as concrete but as cold as ice, and he carries me so effortlessly like I was merely a feather. He smiles down at me, clearly seeing the terror and concern on my face. The concern only deepened when I saw his fangs. Perfect little points at the ends of his mouth, glistening in the moonlight. We stopped in a meadow with a blanket in the center and little purple wildflowers scattered around. From here you can see every star in the sky, every constellation. He puts his hand in mine and I shiver as the cold from his hand radiates up my arm. We sit on the blanket and I'm too stunned to speak. I look over at him. He has dirty blonde hair tied in a bun away from his face, showing off a jawline that could cut through steel. His eyes were as blue as the ocean and they glimmered and danced in the moonlight. A tiny smile poked through his full lips as he notices me staring. I couldn't help it; he draws me in.
He leans down and I can feel his cold breath on my neck. He gently brushes his fingertips over my collarbone, moving my hair over my shoulder. Shivers run down my spine. Slowly and gently he places a single kiss on my neck, and everything goes black.
