Tsukishima Kei was stuck at home on this cold evening. The darkness in his room reflected his feelings, comforting the boy who had no idea what to do after seeing the [h/c] haired girl next door leaving her house with Oikawa at her side. He couldn't seem to shake away the heavy feeling he felt when his eyes caught sight of the soft smile she wore.
He had been there when she bought that exact outfit but it seemed a whole lot different when she was dressed up in it with her hair done prettily for another guy. Her smile, her outfit, her hair, everything she had done was for someone else.
"I'm being dramatic for nothing," he scoffed under his breath, drawing in his legs until they were bent slightly. He rested his forearms on his knees, placing his chin on his arms with a small sigh. Those beautiful honey eyes clouded like a stormy sky, growing more and more hazy as he imagined the things Oikawa and [y/n] would do on their date.
It was none of his business. He didn't even understand why he cared so much about a stupid date that would probably end with no more than a kiss.
A kiss.... Even that sounded unpleasant in his mind when he thought about how her lips felt against his. All those lessons were going to be helpful to her, but it didn't feel as good as he thought it would have. He had been useful, so why wasn't he happy about it?
The images of Oikawa dragging his hands along her skin, touching territory that a mere friend could never enter, it made Tsukishima's heart empty. There was a vague sense of desperation boiling in the pits of his stomach, churning and bubbling fiercely when the thoughts continued to surface.
He wasn't so out of touch with his emotions that he couldn't recognize these feelings but part of him didn't want to acknowledge them. Tsukishima was supposed to be her friend, supporting her with Oikawa till the end. How could he ask for something as selfish as being with her if he had never been brave enough to make a move?
All these years, he watched her from the shadows with these festering feelings in his heart. He purposely kept her at a distance, never allowing her to grow attached to him yet he had the audacity to even be upset when another man finally decided to take the step and go for her. If he was the one rejecting her all this time, why would he even be mad that she had gone for another guy? Growing up in denial only made this harder and harder.
"Kei, I think I saw [y/n]-chan earlier." His mother said as she knocked on his door, laughing lightly, unaware of how her son felt inside of his room. "She was with a boy. Are they dating?"
"How would I know?" Tsukishima called back, trying to soften the edge in his tone around his mother. It was hard to sound unbothered when his mother was asking him something that he really didn't want to hear about right now.
His mother had some great timing.
For the remainder of the night, Tsukishima did everything he could to avoid thinking about what would be happening out there. He put on his headphones, blasted his favorite song on repeat until he got tired of it and decided to head downstairs to eat something small.
The blond had a small appetite to begin with but today, he felt like he wouldn't be able to stomach as much as he usually did. A small slice of bread would suffice for now, especially since he had already had dinner earlier.
"Hey," Akiteru greeted as he stumbled through the front door, kicking off his shoes by the shoe rack. He set them aside nicely, peering up at his little brother through his eyelashes. "What are you doing? Did Mom put away the food already?"
