CHAPTER 23
"Come in," sabi ko kay mama at umusog nang kaonti para paraanin siya.
She smiled at me and shook her head. She gestured me to come closer and I did. And then she whispered, "You should ask her if she wants to meet me, first..."
I chuckled and whispered, "She'd love to meet you too."
"When your dad introduced me to your grandparents... I wasn't ready. It was a surprise. Give her time to ready first. Like, fix her hair or something... I don't want her to feel embarrassed like what happened to me..."
I chuckled and nodded. I really love my mom. I stepped back and my mom closed the door. I looked over the kitchen and she was still looking at me.
"Sino 'yon?" She asked.
"It's mom," I said.
Her eyes widen. "Your mom?" I smiled and nodded. "Okay... Where is she? Bakit mo siya sinaraduhan ng pinto?"
I laughed and just shook my head. "Do you want to meet her?"
She nervously laughed. "I mean, she's already here... So, why not..."
"Okay," I smiled. I was about to go back to the door when she held the hem of my shirt.
"Do we look okay? Like... We didn't just did something," she asked as she comb her hair with her fingers and tried to curl her curtain bangs with her hands.
I chuckled. "Baby, it's fine..." I said before looking over at the pasta and the carbonara sauce. I smiled and planted a kiss on her lips. "She'll love you and your carbonara."
She stifle a smile before nodding.
Tuluyan ko nang binuksan 'yung pinto. Nandoon parin si mama habang nakangiti sa akin. I took the pizza she's holding but I paused when I saw the black guitar case.
I looked at her. "What's that?"
"I saw this outside the mansion. We're renovating the mansion, remember? And I don't know why they wanted to throw this away. It's in good condition."
I laughed as I let her in. "They'll sell it, not throw it away," I said before placing the guitar beside the door. I looked at Abreu who's smiling now. "Mom... This is Abreu... My girlfriend."
"I've been hearing a lot about you since he's seventeen," mom said as she walks towards Abreu with a smile. Mom's smile is really genuine. I couldn't see the nervousness on my girlfriend's face anymore.
My mom and my girlfriend... Getting along is such a view. The way they talk with smiles on their faces and the way you can hear the smile in their voices. There's nothing feels good and looks goods when you see your mom and your girl getting along.
And on this scene I'm seeing right now, our problem with Elaine seems to lessen a bit. Like we didn't just talked about it. Like we weren't overthinking... Right now we're smiling and laughing.
My mom asked Abreu more about her. And I know she loved her even more when Abreu said that she has plans on taking medicine. My girl looks so happy talking about medicine like it wasn't her problem a few weeks ago.
Mom also asked Abreu about her family. And when Abreu told her about their past family problem, she told it with a smile on her face like that thing didn't made her sad before. Kinukuwento niya 'yung malungkot na pangyayari habang naka-ngiti kasi tapos na 'yon at masaya na siya ngayon. Hindi na siya nalulungkot tungkol doon.
"So, your parents are both half Australian?" Mom asked. "Your lolo's are aussies and married a filipina?"
I was just smiling as I eat my favorite carbonara and as I listen to their conversation. Hindi na ako naki-sali sa usap nila. Mag-sasalita na lang ako kung kakausapin nila ako. They're enjoying themselves.
