There was a smash and the sound of glass scattering across the floor.

Kiarra stood still, rooted to the spot, thanking God that she had slippers on. She looked down  at the floor and analysed the damage.

Spread out across the whole kitchen floor were the remains of Kiarras mothers china plate. She stared in shock at the ground now littered with shards if porcelain. It was only then that Kiarra noticed that embedded on top of her left foot was a rather large piece of ceramic from the plate. Funny enough it didn't hurt at all, it just felt extremely weird and uncomfortable. Kiarra just stood and watched in curiosity as the first drops of blood began oozing out and trickling down the side of her foot. Her heart was beating fast from the adrenalin that coursed through her body when the plate slipped out of her hands and came in contact with the ground. As she stood un-moving Kiarra became aware of hurried footsteps approaching her from the other side of the house. As the footsteps emerged from the hallway there was a yell. Kiarra shut her eyes and braced herself for her mothers wrath.

"Kiarra!" Came a worried yell, "are you alright!"

"Umm... Sort of..." Was the reply.

And then her mum spotted the mess. Her eyes widened at the sight. At the hundreds of pieces of what once was her china plate.

"Ohh..." Kiarra's mother whispered softly, the sound of her voice barely reaching Kiarra's ears.

"Sweetheart, don't move." the sound of concern in her voice obvious, "I'll be back in a second with a broom." Her mother hurried away back down the hallway.

"Yep, ok..." Kiarra replied still staring intently at her foot.

The blood was now dripping onto the cold marble floor, creating a small red puddle. Her left slipper that was once light blue was now stained a purple sort of scarlet. Kiarra's mind switched into alert mode. She needed to stop the blood. Ok she thought, Kiarra tried to gather her thoughts but her attempts were in vain. Adrenalin still coursed through her blood and clouded her mind. She shook her head to clear it and looked at her slippers. Kiarra was just about take a step forward when, No she thought, The linen sole is way to thin for me to get out of the mess without the ceramic piercing my foot, again... Kiarra scanned the kitchen for alternatives. Nothing. Even the benches were bare. She may as well wait for her mother.

As if on cue her mum emerged from the hallway with a broom in hand, "Here we are sweetheart," Kiarra's mother brushed away a path from her to her daughter. "Now if you step here than - Oh Kiarra!!!" Her mother exclaimed as she saw the ceramic shard lodged in Kiarra's foot.

"It's alright mother, don't worry! It dosen't even hurt."

"We need to get you fixed up this instant!" Her mother hurriedly guided Kiarra out of the china mess, Kiarra limped along, not because of the pain, bur because of the fact the it felt weird walking normally with a fragment of china plate in your foot. Her mother guided her gently out of the kitchen and into the hallway, heading for the office where the first aid was kept.

How much mess can someone get into while cleaning the dishes? Kiarra questioned herself, whilst looking down at her injured foot. Who drops the very first plate they are washing? They passed the bathroom door. And it had to be my mothers china plate! They went up the stairs. Why do I have to be so clumsy? They came level with the spare room. Why is it that - Kiarra's blood froze in her veins, her breath caught in her throat, for out of the corner of her eye she saw a shadowed human-like figure standing in the open doorway to the spare room. Kiarra let out a piercing scream. She half dragged herself away from the direction of the door shivering, her body raked with fear.

"Kiarra! What's wrong!" Her mother panicked, eyes wide with shock. "Don't worry! Don't worry Kiarra! Everything's alright!"

But Kiarra knew everything was not alright, she must be hallucinating, because when she looked back at the figure straight on, it was no longer there.
