Charlie has this little sister Lola. She is small and very funny.
One morning at breakfast...
Lola: Look what I made with my pancake.
Charlie and Lola: (laughing)
Lola: It's a picture of Charlie. (laughs)
Charlie: That doesn't look like me. That looks like a space alien.
Lola (alien voice): Take me to your leader.
Charlie began adding his own touches to his pancake portrait.
Charlie: That's better. See, your alien just needed some dinosaurs in his cheeks.
Mum: It's time for you little artists to eat your food.
Lola began blowing bubbles in her milk.
Charlie: Mum, are you sure Lola is a member of our family?
Mum: Yes, Charlie, I'm positive.
Charlie: She acts like she's from another planet.
Lola: (babbling like an alien)
Charlie and Lola's dad chimed in.
Dad: Another planet? Why, that's funny. I was just reading about a new show at the observatory. It sounds like it's out of this world! (laughs) Get it? Out of this... world?
Mum: Well, I think it might be nice to take a trip into the city today. We can have a family outing. Let's go.
After breakfast, Charlie, Lola, and their family piled into the car.
Charlie scratched his ears. Lola scratched her ears. Charlie leaned against the front seat. Lola leaned against the front seat.
Charlie: Lola! (humming)
Lola: (humming)
Charlie: Stop it!
Mum: Charlie, Lola, settle down.
Charlie: I didn't do anything.
Lola (imitating Charlie): I didn't do anything.
Charlie: See? She's copying me!
Lola: No, I'm not, Charlie, I just told Mum I didn't do anything.
Dad: I've got an idea. Why don't we have a competition to see who can be quiet for the longest, all right?
Charlie and Lola both stopped talking, but then they started making faces at each other. Baby Barbara began to cry.
Barbara: (wails)
Lola: You made Barbara cry!
Charlie: Ha! You talked first.
Soon, the family arrived at the observatory.
Dad: Okay, not a moment too soon. We've arrived at our destination: the observatory!
Lola: Oh!
Charlie: Wow!
There was so much to see! Lola and Charlie especially loved the glow-in-the-dark planet mobiles.
Charlie: Wow! Would you look at that? Glow-in-the-dark planets. I really like them. Mum, if I had glow-in-the-dark planets, I'd probably go to bed early every night, just so I can look at them. They're also educational.
