It was then that she ran. Out the door and across the street. She didn't care that it was raining and that she was still in her pajamas or that she had messy hair and bare feet. The only thing she cared about now was running away from him. Michael. The cheater. The promise breaker.
She ran across the road barley missing getting hit with a car. It honked, but she didn't hear it. She just kept running. As soon as she started running, he was following her. He screamed her name and chased after her. They ran for what felt like ages. She had been a member of the track and field team, so she could run faster and for longer then him. When he finally reached the point where he couldn't continue chasing her, he just yelled her name.
She kept running, not stopping. Then he saw the bus. Driving on the road she was going to cross. She would stop, he thought, she wouldn't run across the road before the bus had passed, she would get hit. But, as far as he could see, she had no intentions of stopping for the bus, or anybody for that matter. He got up and ran towards her, yelling for her too stop. She didn't.
It all happened so fast. He was running at her, ready to pull her towards him and save her from getting hit by the bus. Ready to apologize until she forgave him. Ready to kiss her in the pouring rain and spend the rest of his life with her. He loved her. He needed her. He had lost her. He didn't get to her in time. She ran straight in front the bus, neither it nor her stopping. She was hit and sent flying. The bus screeched to a stop and Michael ran to her. She was out, cold. The bus driver phoned 111. The ambulance arrived, she was taken away. He went with her of course. But she didn't look good. Well, thats what the nurses kept saying.
"She doesn't look good."
"We'll do as much as we can."
"She might be a goner."
Michael was numb. The love of his life was in hospital. Almost dead! He may never talk to her again. Never hold her, kiss her, tell her he loved her ever again. She might die.
