Author Note:
Read Part One first. This story takes place after the events of 3x08. At that time we only knew the artifact existed and Alaric planned to research it. We 'knew' that Cleo, Kaleb, and Alaric sang to The Ferryman to get him to return Landon's soul.
Anything we learned later in Season 3 about the artifact, Landon, or Cleo did NOT take place before 3x08. I plotted out this entire story BEFORE we learned the rest. The summary reads "Spoilers for Season 3" instead of 3x08 because some things I wrote before 3x16 aired are strikingly similar to things that happened in 3x16. I didn't want anyone reading this before watching to be spoiled. Plus, since I knew I was changing the spoiler warning, I did add a TINY line of dialogue for Lizzie toward the end that came straight from 3x16, ha.
I hope the timeline makes sense!
Enjoy!

As undercover missions went, this was probably his easiest and most favorite though Clarke knew better than to ever admit that to Hope even when she discovered the truth.
Giving himself permission to kiss her to maintain his cover, he made that the line he wouldn't cross—but he enjoyed toeing the line way more than she would appreciate.
Hope didn't once think he was anyone other than he said he was. He played many roles in his life and was a pro at maintaining most facades. Admittedly, he didn't know everything about Landon. He still had to brush up on his brother's nerdy eighties occult movie fetish. After that, he might actually have to bite the bullet and clog his brain with useless details of Dungeons and Dragons to get the fairy off his back. Fortunately, since "he" as Landon missed a lot of school being presumed dead, the excuse of too much homework to play the idiot game worked pretty well.
Of course, he was half hoping he would never have to learn it if he could see his new plan through.
The other half, well, that part was enjoying having Hope all to himself a little too much.
At first he was confused he didn't have a roommate, uncertain what happened to Rafael Waithe, his brother's foster brother. He couldn't ask where the wolf was. They would've told him if he left while "Landon" was away. Since they didn't say anything, he could only assume he was supposed to know.
He also wondered if he could legitimately get away with keeping things "PG-13" as he told Hope. The first night she showed up and crawled into bed with him, he worried about it for a nanosecond. But all she did was kiss him softly, snuggle into his side, and look up at him with those adoring eyes to tell him how much she missed him before she fell asleep.
Everything would have been perfect if things could've stayed that way.
But when did that ever happen?
Hope was making it damn near impossible to resist her.
He only kissed her when she initiated it, but she was becoming more and more enthusiastic every night. Once she started, he usually took the lead to make sure he was in control of everything. He didn't put his hands anywhere they didn't belong, but she kept trying to He spent a lot of time holding her hands, or kissing her while lying half on top of her so she couldn't get her hands in between them. He put a stop to things as quickly as possible each time.
He helped her make up with her roommate, Cleo, hoping that would encourage her to stay in her own room. He also helped her make up with Lizzie, as she seemed particularly down about being on the outs with the twin. He did anything so she wasn't so focused on him.
