Trigger warning- this story will contain mentions of alcoholism and neglect
It was gone 10pm on a Tuesday night way past bedtime for most 5 year olds but not Louis and Liam. Their mum was passed out on the sofa cuddling a bottle of empty vodka and their dad hadn't been seen in a couple of days. The boys had been playing in their room but were now getting tired and irritable with each other.
"Louis! Stop tha' noise" Liam scolded, at first Louis hadn't realised he was making any noises but when Liam started to complain Louis just continued to make more to annoy his twin. Louis made the noise again, "mummmm!" Liam called, as usual no one responded. Louis shoved Liam in anger, "shut up stupid" he said. Liam started to cry making Louis feel bad. With a sigh Louis took Liam's hand and led him to their single bed they shared. Both boys lay down and started to fall asleep.
The next morning both boys were woken up by the day light streaming into their rooms. Louis bounded downstairs and began climbing the kitchen cabinets to get the box of store own brand coco pops. He then crossed his legs and began to eat out of the box. Soon after Liam wondered down in his school uniform. "Get dressed LouLou" he said, always the sensible one. Louis sighed dramatically but jumped down and got ready.
Finally the boy's mum was woken up by the phone ringing. "Yup?" She answered groggily. It was the families social worker checking that they were on their way to school. "We are just leaving" she mumbled as she hung up the phone. "Boys" she screamed, "let's go".
Meanwhile, a young couple were on their way to register to be foster parents.
Please let me know what you think, it's a short introductory chapter but they will get longer. :)
