I nearly slammed the laptop on the floor.

What the hell was a military contractor doing with human subjects? More specifically, my girlfriend?

I scrolled through the document, and I found a log.

August 21st, 2017

DH 117 was captured along with subjects LH 529 and MH 802. Accident was staged. Subject was sent to Legion Biological Research for testing.

Notes: "DH 117 is especially crafty, and will probably attempt to escape. Use higher-than average caution. Remember though, she is still young."

September 1st, 2017

DH 117 was the first subject exposed to Chemical R698. Subject showed signs of nausea and vomiting, and was sent to infirmary for treatment of any possible symptoms.

If she's hurt in any way...you are in for a world of pain, Alex.

September 6th, 2017

DH 117 requested to be allowed outside. Request was denied.

September 18th, 2017

DH 117 was relocated to Unit 528, after being exposed to Chemical R683. Subject showed no symptoms.

I check my calendar. Today was September 24th, a Friday.

Welp, there goes my-

I heard a knock on the door. "Hey, I'm going to get some groceries. You want to come with me?"

"It's not like I have a choice, right?" I said, and I heard a laugh from behind the door.

"Get dressed. We'll be going in about half an hour."

"Okay!"

.......

Today, traffic was murder.

But I didn't actually drive! You don't do that during rush hour in San Fran.

Instead, me and my dad decided to walk to the supermarket. Our district was a bit cramped, but it kinda felt a little cozy. I had lived here for a long time anyway.

"I'm going to need to make a withdrawal. Wait here."

"Alright."

I leaned on the wall of the bank, listening to some lo-fi jams while I waited.

A man, wearing a two-piece suit, was texting someone on his phone, but I noticed something strange. He was wearing blue surgical gloves. You know, the ones you find at the store?

Something bothered me. But what set off red flags was when he slipped into the alleyway.

I was tempted to follow him, but was I going exo when the man might have just wanted some privacy for a call? We don't do that here.

For a couple of minutes, I kept relaxing, but then I heard the gunshots.

Almost instantaneously, people started screaming, and I heard a voice from inside. "Get down on the ground people! We don't want any civilian casualties!" I was about to disappear into an alley, to try to transform, but a hulking mass blocked my way.

The guy was wearing a Doge mask, and was wearing a bulky gray bomb suit, which was the equivalent of a bullet-proof life vest, except it was a suit.

He was also carrying a rocket launcher. Which made people scream even more.

"You heard the man. Get inside the bank, and down on your knees!" I stared at him with an apprehensive expression.

"Look man, I'm worried you might get a little hurt, so why don't you set that rocket launcher down?"
