I stood outside the Smith manor.
I remembered my plan. But there was one crucial detail which I failed to resolve. I figured I could just cross the bridge when it came to it. I had taken another breath, and calmly knocked on the door.
"Sorry, we're not interested." I smiled at the recording that played from the speaker as I remembered that one of my great-uncles used this kind of system to drive away salesmen or random scammers. You never knew who might show up at your door.
I knocked again.
No response this time.
Last chance, Alex.
I knocked one last time. The peephole flashed with the whites of someone's eyes.
"Go away."
I sighed. Fine.
Without another thought, I kicked the door inwards, launching the doorman five feet back.
"When someone politely knocks, you should really let them in!" I yelled as I activated my exo.
The doorman started to crawl backwards, but I didn't let him finish.
"Intruder detected. Lockdown initiated." With a violent slam, a metal wall came down behind me, blocking the doors off. I didn't need to get out through there anyway.
I walked down the hall, but I soon became lost in the many hallways that made up the bottom floor. Along the way, I came across guards, who I quickly shot down without too much effort.
Eventually, I came to a set of stairs. The only problem? It only went up one floor, which was...infuriating.
I sighed as I ran up the stairs. I sighed, and I walked down the hall. Another team of mercenaries met up with me, but I took them down easy.
Soon, I was in another hallway, with the stairs at the other end of the hall. There were a few rooms on the sides of the floor, and I noticed there was a sticky note on one.
Do not disturb!
I stared at it, uncomprehending. What was this about? Was this his room?
No, Alex would probably use the upper floors. Anyone else would probably be maids or something of the sort...but...wait. He had a daughter didn't he?
I was awfully tempted to open the door. Take something from Alex, if you catch my drift.
I shook my head. I plastered the note back on the door, and continued down the hall.
I took the stairs once again.
The homestretch toward something greater.
