Jess and I's fight that had occurred around a month ago, was one of the many to come. Jess and I bickered non-stop. At first, Luke found it funny (and believe me, Luke of all people does not find many things comical. But now he's found that whenever Jess and I's little spats get loud he finds that the customers pay more attention to us, then to him.
I try, I really do try to not fight with Jess, but it's inevitable really, I mean it you've ever met the guy you'd probably begin to understand. For starters, he finds a way to bring up every one of my flaws and use it in an argument, he is probably one of the biggest gas lighters I know, (excluding my father), and if I do the tiniest thing wrong, he goes absolutely mental. For example, yesterday I accidentally put the salt in the pepper shaker, it was my mistake but it's not my fault the labels were turned around when I was filling them up, anyway, he started attempting to tell me how to run Luke's, as if I hadn't been working here longer then him.
"Morning only daughter" Mom said.
I jumped at her voice.
"I don't bite I promise" Mom said laughing in response to my spook.
I paused and started thinking about the ten million things I had to do today other than cover my shift at the diner. I had to study for chemistry and biology test. Drop off Rory's sweatshirt she left over at my house, return books to the library, and to top it all off I had somehow gotten myself into helping Babette organize her glass cat figurines.
"As much as I'm sure that label on your cereal box is very intriguing, it's a Saturday and you have your shift at Luke's today and unless you want a very angry man in a baseball cap to yell at you, I suggest you actually start eating your cereal" Mom said.
"I'll hurry" I said.I arrived at Luke's nearly late, but making it right on time.
"You're late" Jess misinformed me, standing behind the counter, already in an apron, looking slightly intimidating m.
"I am not" I said, shooting him a look.
"Well not really, but your not ten minutes early, which you normally are, therefore I qualify this as late"
"Glad you miss me" I responded, slightly proud of myself for having something good to snap back with.
"Wait" I paused.
"How did you know I'm always ten minutes early?" I asked.
Jess shrugged and disappeared into the storage room.
I sighed and got to taking orders as the early-bird customers began to drift in.As I'm in the middle of a fight with Jess over the question of which, customers should be able to send back food if they've changed their mind and want to request something new from the menu or not, the bell jangles and a familiar face walks in.
"Do you have any idea of how wasteful it is to throw out a perfectly fine plate of food because some guy doesn't want it anymore?!" Jess said.
"Look I get it's not ideal, but what the hell are you supposed to say, 'Shut up and eat your damn food you already picked out'?!"Then I saw him, a middle aged man in a New Haven Chargers t-shirt walked in. To my dismay, we made eye contact immediately
