[1963, July]
Almost every day, ships docked at Genosha, bringing Mutants to live there. Erik was happy to be able to accept more mutants to live on his island. He hoped Genosha would be the best place for mutants to live.
In months, Erik hasn't heard anything about Charles. He knew he had hurt Charles and he understood that Charles might never want to talk to him again. Moreover, he was already very evil by paralyzing his friend's leg. Pietro also always asked him about Charles but Erik never wanted to discuss it with Pietro. He didn't want his son to be disappointed knowing that they were no longer in contact.
Azazel just returned to Genosha and he brought the news that the US Government had authorized the Central Intelligence Agency to establish Project WideAwake, a covert task force to investigate other X-Gene cases and their prevalence across the United States.
While its mission strictly revolved around the identification and research of mutants, it exercised paramilitary autonomy from the President's mandates. Azazel told Erik that they had captured many mutants for the research project.
Erik is furious at the humans who always use mutants as the object of their experiments, he thinks that humans always treat mutants arbitrarily, Erik won't let that continue, he has to stop it. He asked Azazel, Angel, Raven, Riptide, Emma, and other mutants to come with him to America and stop the project.
And that means for the next few days he would have to leave his Son again. He knew Pietro would not be happy but Erik had to convince him and make him understand that there were many mutants out there who need help.
"Papa has to go, right?" Pietro asked Erik while feeding Mr. Dibbles on the edge of the pond.
"Yes, that's right," said Erik then sat down beside his son.
"Go, I'm fine here," said Pietro.
"Are you sure?" Asked Erik.
Pietro nodded, "I have Mr. Dibbles here, I won't be lonely anymore" he smiled. "I can understand, you went to help people out there, right?" Erik nodded, relieved that Pietro could understand why he had to go.
Erik stroked Pietro's silver hair, he kissed the top of his hair, then said goodbye and left. He promised to come back quickly and see his son again. He had asked Bova to look after Pietro while he was away.

[10 days later]
Erik returned to Genosha with his comrades and some of the mutants they had managed to free. Erik returned to Genosha tired, but he was also happy to finally be able to see his son again.
Actually, he planned to only leave Pietro for two days, but the circumstances that had happened when they were on their mission ended up getting worse. Azazel and Angel have been captured by the government and regretfully Erik couldn't save them.
