*Lucas's point of view*
"Luke wake up," Haley laughed, "my shift is over. We're going to the rivercourt, remember?"
I nodded sleepily, "Yeah, let's go."
"I thought you liked doing your English homework," she said condescendingly, teasing me.
"Okay, I did not say that I like doing English homework, I said that I would rather do English than Math."
"No no no, you said," she held up air quotes and sarcastically mocked me, "I speak English, not numbers."
"Whatever," I stood and couldn't help but laugh, "Do you always have to be right Haley James?"
She shrugged dramatically, "Not necessarily, but you're always wrong so it's basically the same thing right?" She laughed at her own joke, as she usually does and we leave the cafe and head to the rivercourt.
"Are you ready to see me kick some butt?"
"Well Luke, not to burst your bubble, but Fergie and Junk aren't the most challenging opponents out there. Especially up against you and Skills."
I sighed, "I know.. But I just can't join the high school team."
"Why can't you Luke? You're just as talented as all of them. Even more talented actually. You're better than that jerk, Nathan, too and you know it."
"My mom wouldn't like it if I joined and I hate that guy. Plus, Dan Scott basically owns that team. I'd never last."
"Sometimes you've just gotta take a chance and go for it."
"Well school's almost out. Maybe next year." I shrugged it off but I knew that she'd bring it up again later. We have the same conversation at least twice a week.
The rest of the short walk to the court was quiet.
"And now arrives the other half of the dynamic duo, Lucas Scott!" Mouth said with the utmost enthusiasm as always. Apparently Skills and I now form the "Dynamic Duo."
Haley walked over and sat down between Jimmy and Mouth and opened up her notebook to work on homework.
"Shoot for teams?" I ask that every time but it always ends up the same way. Skills and I against Fergie and Junk.
"Yeah whatever," Fergie mumbled unenthusiastically and as usual the teams are the same.
The next couple hours are spent the same way as every night on the rivercourt. Mouth and Jimmy commentating, Haley doing homework, and Skills and I kicking ass in basketball.
"Did you finish all of your homework?" I ask Haley as I dribble my basketball during the walk home.
She yawns, "Yep and I'm exhausted."
"You're exhausted?" I chuckle.
"I am mentally drained Lucas Eugene." She remarks sarcastically.
I wince dramatically, "Did you have to use my middle name?" I laugh playfully.
She laughs, "As a matter of fact I did. It's the only way to get you to take me seriously."
I smile as we turn our separate ways, "Goodnight Haley James." I pull my headphones out of my pocket.
"Goodnight Lucas Scott," she waves and turns her back and walks down the street to her house as I put in my earbuds and start running.
