Talia:
The car ride to the party is loud. Cassie has control of the music, meaning she is blasting Taylor Swift songs and screaming at the top of her lungs. There's never a quiet day with her.
Jess and Quinn sit in the back together, where they lean against each other adorably. I want something like that. With a guy, though, but you get the point.
Pulling up to the house—actually, more like 200 feet from it—we all start making our way inside. There's tons of people here. I'm no stranger to a high school party, but this is insane. The speakers are blasting songs that I've never heard before and people are bumping into each other everywhere. There is a sticky moisture traveling through the air, most likely a mixture of sweat and fumes from whatever is being smoked. All of its nastiness sticks to me like a second skin.
Cassie leads us through the crowd, and I notice that we lost Jess and Quinn. They probably went to go dance with each other, or something. Soon enough, I'm in front of the bar where Cas is pouring herself a beer in a red solo cup with a smile on her face. She is more adaptive to the party scene than I am.
"What do you want to drink?" She yells over the music. The bass thrums rhythmically through my bones.
"You can just pour me some water. Someone has to be the designated driver tonight."
Cas nods and grabs another cup to fill with water from the sink. I'm usually the designated driver because I don't like to drink. I don't have a stick up my caboose or anything, I just don't like the way alcohol tastes and burns going down, or especially how it affects behavior. So, I stick to water.
I sip from my cup and look around the house. On the surprisingly grand staircase, underclassmen are making out and feeling each other up. Traveling hands grip at whatever skin is available, and for some miraculous reason, both people involved are increasingly turned on. Their passion is endless. Gross, get a room. I'm sure there are a ton here in this mansion.
I look over at the dance floor, located in the room next to the kitchen, and find Quinn and Jess dancing together, just as I expected. They crowd themselves in with the other teenagers, dancing along to the music, but stay entirely lost in each other. They hold hands and mouth the words to the song, their bodies becoming one in spirit.
"Do you want to go dance with them?" Asks Cassie, following my gaze.
I shrug. "There are too many people over there, and I don't feel like being grinded on."
"You're right," she says, giving a disgusted look. "There are way too many horny teenagers here."
I laugh and turn my attention to the backyard where it looks quieter. "Hey, why don't we go over there?"
Cas nods and I pull her by the arm out the door. The deafening music instantly quiets down and I sigh with relief. Then, the relief instantly escapes my body, sucked out from me like how a vacuum inhales dust.
