Jasper's eyes softened as he looked at the weight his best friend insisted on carrying on his own. It didn't matter how many times Jasper offered to take some of it away. Sebastian didn't want him having to fight his battles. Years of friendship taught Jasper that all the blonde haired boy before him needed, was a little company.

Sebastian seemed to always think Jasper needed to be protected, or at least shielded from the worst of it. He was no stranger to violence. But that's probably why he insisted of taking care of all of it.

Jasper's father use to push him around a lot when he was little. As an alcoholic, he let the booze go to his head and bring out the worst in him. It had started out mildly enough. After a little drink here and there his father would would give him a shove or a smack across the face. But as the drinking got heavier, so did his punishments. Eventually it didn't matter if he'd had a drink or not and even during the small times of sobriety he had, Jasper was used as his father's personal punching bag.

One day, after a particularly bad thrashing, Jasper escaped from the house and crashed at the nearest park. He'd met Sebastian that day, just a smiling little boy who felt the need to check on him when every other kid and adult in the park ignored his battered and bruised form.

Just a month later, Jasper's father was sent to prison for being found guilty of assaulting a minor. The beatings stopped and Jasper was placed in the custody of his aunt from his mother's side. All because of that smiling kid who decided to become his best and only friend.

He was saved by him that day and he supposed it's why Sebastian felt the need to watch over and protect him now.

They headed back into the school building and made their way down the stairs until they reached the top floor. Everyone was out roaming the halls and Sebastian and Jasper expertly menuvered themselves through the crowd. The halls were full of shouting and obnoxious laughter.

A group of guys were gathered around two students fighting at the other end of the hall. By the looks of it, it was pretty brutal. Each one was bleeding from various wounds and breathing heavily, but neither wanted to stop. The gathering crowd stood back and watched with barely contained joy as the two came to blows.

Instead of stopping to watch, Jasper and Sebastian continued on and made their way to the third floor where their classroom was located. It was just as chaotic as the top floor, but luckily there weren't any fights in the middle of the hall.

Teachers at Timberview were always conveniently out of sight whenever a fight was going on. If one happened to see one, they'd simply say a few words of admonishment before walking on by. They didn't care if the students listened and kept on fighting; sometimes they would just keep on walking as if they'd never seen it happening in the first place. It was extremely rare for a teacher to step in on a fight. On those rare occasions it was usually because a student was on the brink of death.
