I didn't want to leave my family, I didn't want to leave my love Roberto, I especially didn't want to leave my best friend Christa, who was there for me when no one else would even bother to talk to me. I lived a fantastic life in Canada, but it was, it was my time to leave and go down my own road, make my own decisions, and finally find out who I was meant to be. Today was the day, the day I would leave. On my own, on my skateboard. Sounds silly, but for me, it has always been my favorite way of transportation.
There I was on the corner of Fitzgerald Avenue, nothing else but a backpack filled with my necessities and my skateboard, I set it on the ground, ready to ride away to freedom.
Suddenly I heard running in the distance, before I could look over I knew it was only one person, Christa. My eyes filled with tears, heart racing, I didn't want to see her again only because I couldn't change my mind to stay in Canada. She and Roberto were the reasons I hesitated to leave, but I made my decision and I knew there was no going back, unless...
"Mordekai!" She exclaimed, and then began to tell me about something. I said "Okay, it's a plan."
The intruders attacked me, they came with guns, I wasn't scared. They were wearing ski masks, I wasn't scared, you know why? It was "the plan". I knew how to act in the moment. "Oh no!" I yelled "We In The hood!"
I knew exactly what to do next, when the aimless member of the intruder gang shot his gun my way, I let out a low groan and collapsed onto the ground. Leaving them believing I was defeated... But no.
Once they were out of sight, Christa helped me up and we high fived each other. "You have been the most amazing friend anyone on this earth could ever ask for, I feel blessed to have you in my life, Christa." I confessed. We hugged for a long time. Happy tears flowed from our eyes, "Have a wonderful journey." Christa said finally. "Promise me you'll come back one day."
I looked her directly in the eye and said quietly "I promise." We stood there for about ten seconds and I was on my way. "Goodbye Mordkai!" She called out for me. "Goodbye!" I called back.
I made my way past Gertrude Boulevard, the August wind blowing through my unzipped black hoodie, the sky was cloudy, I loved that weather, nothing could be better. "Hey." I heard an easily recognizable deep manly voice call. I stopped my skateboard, took a few steps back, there he was, Roberto. A smile bloomed across my face as I ran to give him a hug. We kissed for about five seconds, then he said, "If you're going to leave, let's leave together." All I could do was smile and say "We will."
Roberto got onto the back of my skateboard, and we rode away together, to freedom yet someday, we knew, we'd return.
My black hoodie, my black SnapBack, the purple shoes I finally were able to get my hands on, the cloudy skies, my skateboard, Roberto, Christa, who could ask for a better life, who could ask for better people to live that perfect life with? Now I am riding away to freedom. Nothing gets better...
