SPENCER'S POV:I was standing in the middle of the halls, admiring the freshly painted lockers and the crystal clear floors. Glancing from left to right as students navigated past me. I knew one thing for sure, I didn't fit in. I was wearing old skool vans with holes in them from overuse, and a semi-dirty tank top, while others were wearing more than my outfit costs right on their neck. A man with no hair and a blue cap walked up to me and patted my back.
"Spencer? Spencer James, correct?" Coach Baker asked. Spencer turned around and focused his attention on coach. He nodded.
"Yes coach. That's me." Spencer responded with a polite tone. Coach smiled as he let out a slight chuckle.
"Don't play nice kid. I can tell by the expression on your face you don't want to be here. But remember what I said, playing here will only help your future goals of playing in the NFL." Coach Baker reassured. Spencer shrugged as he pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket, and unfolded it. Coach glanced down at the paper.
"I know I'm the football coach and all, but I can help you find your classes." Coach Baker suggested. Spencer smiled.
"Thanks for the offer Coach, but I think I can find my way around here just fine." Spencer replied as he glanced down at his schedule once more.
"Ight, well, welcome to Beverly. See you at practice." Coach Baker said as he patted Spencer's back and headed the opposite direction, leaving Spencer alone.
SPENCER'S POV:
Coach Baker was right. I didn't want to be here. I was more than thriving with my teammates in Crenshaw. Deep down, I knew he was right. No college scouts are looking at a third class, football player, from Crenshaw. I needed to restart in a different place, and Beverly was my decision. After all, coach wanted me here, so I guess that means I need to show out during practice later this evening, and get the Eagles back on track this season. I walked to my first period class, Biology, as I was a few minutes late. I slightly knocked on the door, as it was closed. A lady with short brown hair, in a red dress answered.
"Is this Biology?" Spencer asked, embarrassed from the many faces staring his way. The lady smiled.
"Yes sir, your late. I'm Mrs. Gilmore." She said, as she reached out her hand for Spencer to shake.
"I'm--"
"I know, your new here. Spencer James, right?" Mrs.Gilmore asked. Spencer nodded.
"Yes, ma'am." He answered politely. Mrs.Gilmore gave him a piece of paper reading: First week assignment (Partner work)
"Ok, Spencer, may you please find an unoccupied seat." Mrs.Gilmore asked. Spencer grinned as he made his way towards the seat closest to him that wasn't already taken. He sat down as the teacher made her way back to the front of the class.
OLIVIA'S POV:
I noticed an unfamiliar face walking to an untaken seat very close to me. He was extremely handsome, and unlike any of the boys here. He was different. I could tell.
"Well students, as you all know, our first assignment of the school year needs to be completed with a partner." Mrs.Gilmore demanded. The class sighed in annoyance. "Please pick the partner of your choosing right now." Mrs.Gilmore added on.
SPENCER'S POV:
I glanced around the room, hoping for someone to ask me to be their partner. No luck. Until a beautiful, light skin, girl, with pretty curly hair walked up to my side. I smiled as I couldn't help but stare deeply into her majestic brown eyes, that looked like honey melting from the reflection of the sun coming out of the classroom window.
"Hi." Olivia approached Spencer. Spencer smiled.
"Hey." Spencer replied as he fidgeted with his pencil. Olivia stood their in silence, trying to collect her words.
"Well, for starters, I should probably introduce myself. Olivia Baker." Olivia explained as he reached her hand out for him to shake. He grinned as he shook her hand.
"Baker. Oh so you must be--"
"Yeah the football coach is my dad." Olivia explained as she sat down in the chair next to Spencer.
"So, Spencer James, what do you say we work on this project together?" Olivia suggested. Spencer blushed as he let out a slight chuckle, trying to hide his several feelings of emotions.
"That sounds great." Spencer replied as he stared deeply into her eyes. Olivia soon met his gaze.
