4 years later..."Kalissa girl, hurry up before we end up late," Evette whined, getting Serenity in her dress. I looked in the bathroom mirror at myself once more before slipping on my shades and sighing.
I walked out to find Serenity in her puffy white dress and smiled, handing her the basket of flowers.
"You look beautiful, baby," I kissed her cheek. "Daddy is gonna be so happy."
She smiled too, twirling in her dress. "You look pretty too, mommy."
"Thanks, babe," I grabbed her little white jacket, looking over at Evette. "Ready?"
Evette rubbed my back. "Kay you don't have to go. I'll take Serenity-"
"No, I promised I'd go," I grabbed my purse, strapping it over my shoulder. "Lets get it over with."
We got in the car and we went to see August get married.
---
"My three favorite ladies!" Chandra greeted us with a kiss on our cheeks. "You three look beautiful!"
"Thank you, mama. So do you! Your hair is putting these basic hoes to shame," Evette smiled.
"You know how I do," Chandra laughed, flipping her long blonde hair. "Come on though everyone is inside."
We walked in and Serenity ran off to play with Kay, Chay, and Mya while me, Chandra, and Evette went to get a seat.
"Kay, I'm so proud of you for coming," Chandra said, frowning. "Are you sure you gonna be okay?"
"Yes," I nodded, faking a smile. "I'll be fine. I'm happy for August, really. Cassidy is a good woman. Honestly."
"Hmmm, ion believe you," Evette turned up her nose. "You need a drink? A blunt? A razor? Somethin?"
"I'm good," I laughed as best as I could. "Really."
"Well I need something to get me through this boring ass wedding. I'll back," Evette stood up, going to the bar.
Chandra stood up, smoothing out her dress. "Let me get the girls before their ruin their clothes."
As Chandra walked away, Shelia walked up and took her seat.
"Hello, Miss Shelia," I smiled politely, hugging her lightly.
"Hey, Kalissa, how you been?" She asked. "I haven't seen you in ages."
"Fine, busy as usual. How about you?"
"Just here," She sighed, looking around. "I wasn't expecting you to be here."
"Yeah, nobody did," I sighed too. "But I really am okay. I'm happy for August."
"Are you really, girl?" She raised an eyebrow at me as if she saw right through me.
"Yes."
"Kalissa, I know we haven't been on good terms ever since I met you but in all honesty, I rather August be marrying you today."
"Really?" I asked, surprised.
"Of course. To be honest, I never wanted to accept the fact that August found someone that made him so happy that he forgot about his mama. I guess you could say I was jealous of the love he has for you. But now I see him and I know he's not the same with Cassidy. He's not happy with her. He clearly needs you, Kay. And you need him. And I personally want you to be with him."
I shook my head, looking down. "Shelia, I'm flattered, really. But it's too late for me and August. He's getting married today and nothing's gonna change that."
