Shrouded in night,

She walks in silence,

side by side with Death.

"Are you not frightened of me?"

Asked Death of her

As he led her through the wood.

Her voice was stuck,

Hindering her speech,

Her answer heard anyhow.

"Are you prepared for this, then?"

Again she could not speak,

And he heard her still.

Together they walked on,

Taking in the calm, silent night,

Traveling slowly but far.

"How long will this last?"

He wondered aloud,

Her sielnce his only company.

Together they traveled,

Taking the long way around,

Talking with no words.

"How much longer is there?"

He asked at last.

Her hand found his in the dark.

Hand in hand they walked,

Having to change direction often,

Hearing the wind in the trees.

"Will this be the end?"

White light appeared up ahead,

Walking towards it still.

Silent words filled the air,

Sorrow moving them forward,

Seeming to sweep them along.

"We shall be together again."

Was the assurance he left her,

With a gentle kiss on the cheek.

White light consumed her spirit,

While leaving Death behind

With nothing left of her but memories.

Artificial light blinded her,

As she was alive once more,

And still she longed for Death.
