"Shit" Allie said and she ducked underneath a counter. What the hell was she doing underneath a counter?
"What the fuck are you doing?" I asked.
She didn't respond.
A man in a New Haven Chargers shirt walked up to the counter, I looked down at Allie, hoping she'd see the look in my eye that said "we have customers get up."
"What can I do for you today?" I asked putting my hands on the counter.
"Uh, does an 'Allie McClain' work here by any chance?" He asked.
For once in my life, I didn't really know what to say, I mean what the hell, I can't just say "Oh yeah one sec, Allie get up from under the counter".
I looked down at Allie. Her face was pale and her eyes were tearing up. It took everything in me not to laugh. The situation wouldn't be as hilarious if I actually did know why she was under the counter and crying.

I debated in my mind for a few seconds, weather or not to tell the man that she was here or not. But, for some reason I said,
"She's not hear right now, but I can pass on the message that you dropped by I guess"
"Oh" He said.
"Well that's okay, here just give her this"
He passed a crumpled up manila envelope that had something that looked like a handwritten letter on looseleaf.
I looked back up from the envelope and to him, and began drinking in the scene. His face looked like it hadn't been shaven in a while, and he smelled strongly of marijuana and cigarettes. Why was he stopping by to see Allie of all people.
He gave me a slightly confused expression and walked out.
I looked back down at Allie, who looked like she'd just seen a ghost.
"So" I said, "you never told me you dabble as a Cartell Worker."
"What?" She asked, her voice cracking a little when she talked.
"No, seriously, whatcha got in there, cocaine?" I asked pointing to the envelope.
"Give it here" She said.
"Ah, she's arisen"
She started to open it.
"We have customers, what the hell are you doing on the floor?!" Luke asked.
"Sorry" Allie said.

For the rest of our shift, something changed. Allie was quiet, no arguments took place. She moved almost mechanically, without saying a word. Her face continued to look as if all the color had drained from her face.

Finally, after a long and somewhat boring shift, without all the excitement of Allie and I bickering i between lulls, we were off. Allie took of her apron. And I walked over to one of the diner chairs to read.

"Can you leave?" Allie asked.
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"I said can you leave" Allie repeated.
"Yeah I heard you"
She looked at me.
"I live here I can't just leave!"
"What the hell is wrong with you today why do you even care?!" Allie asked, getting worked up.
