I looked back at Jc and what mostly hurt, is that instead of explaining he looked down avoiding eye contact. I kept running upstairs without looking back. I went up and started packing all my clothes that was visible and then took out my phone to call my cousin.
"What are you doing?" I heard a cracking voice say from the door of the bedroom. I didn't answer. "Melissa, please."
"Go away." I ordered.
"No. I'm sorry, Melissa I really am" his voice continued to crack.
"Was I really not good enough?" I looked him dead in the eye.
"No! Of course not, you're everything I have been looking for" Jc retorted.
"Doesn't seem like it" I rolled my eyes.
"Look, it was mistake. I'm sorry Mel-issa" I sensed a little regret in his voice but I wasn't buying it.
"That's all you can say, huh? 'It was a mistake'. Maybe, if you would've told me at the moment I would've felt a little pity, but now. This is ridiculous Jc!" I felt my voice start to increase in volume.
"It's not easy" he looked down.
"What's not easy?" I looked at him, feeling my blood boil.
"It's not easy telling you, if I know the one thing good in my life will leave me if she knows what happened" Jc didn't look up, he just stared at the floor in disappointment.
"You're being pathetic" I spat.
"It's the truth" Jc remarked.
"It's all bullshit. Don't sell me lies Jc, I'm tired of people telling me lies" I felt a tear drop down on my cheek, I wiped it off and continued packing.
"I'm not lying. You know me Melissa, you know me better than anyone else." Jc pleaded.
"Jc, I'm obviously just another girl in your life. Girlfriends will come and go and obviously I wasn't good enough and that's ok, I just want you to be happy..." I paused "but I won't be taking part in you're lifestyle anymore, I promise."
"Melissa, I don't want that" he gently held my arm causing me to look at him. I looked at his face; his eyes watery, red, puffy face. I took in every detail, but then reality hit me and suddenly my heart went cold.
I was indifferent; I didn't care anymore. I looked at him dead in the eye and said something so simple yet so impactful.
"But I do." I grabbed my cell phone and my packed suitcase and walked past a frozen Jc. "Oh, and if it wasn't clear enough. Whatever we had, if it was even real to you, is over." and with that I shut the room door behind me and went downstairs.
"Melissa? Are you ok?" Selena asked concerned, as she came closer.
"Don't touch me" I bluntly said.
"What Jc did is worse" Sam intervened, knowing I was bothered by Selena as well.
"It doesn't mean it's right for a 'friend' to keep that from me" I glared.
"Where are you going?" Marlene asked.
"Home" was all I said, as I dialed my cousin's number.
"Wait, you're leaving me here?" Marlene asked.
"Yes" I responded.
"But we brought your car" Marlene looked at me confused.
"I don't care" I rolled my eyes.
"Can we at least talk this through" Marlene suggested.
"That sounds like a good idea" Selena nervously cheered, as I glared at her.
"No. I wanna go home" was all I said.
"Melissa, just-" I cut Marlene off.
"Let me go. I'm not happy here, at least not now" I looked into her eyes, knowing she'd read the pain I felt and let me go before I broke down.
"Can I come with you?" she questioned.
"No, I'll be fine" I weakly smiled, as I realized my cousin had answered I attended the call and started heading for the empty kitchen.
"Mel, you ok?" Marie asked.
"No, can you come and pick me up?" my voice cracked a little.
"Oh god, yes. Text me the address I'll be there as soon as possible" knowing it would take a few hours to get here, I dragged my worn out self to the living room and sat on the couch.
"Melissa..." Selena started.
"Please. My cousin will be here in a few hours, just leave me alone." I asked one last favor.
"Ok..." she agreed as she left the room with Sam.
"Melissa, I'm here." Marlene sat next to me and hugged me.
"I know" I started crying into her shoulder.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" she lightly spoke into my ear.
"No, I just wanna go to sleep" I sniffed.
"Ok, I'll sleep on the other couch to keep you company" she smiled and made her way to the couch besides mine.
"You don't have to" I laughed a little.
"Yes I do, now go to sleep" she demanded.
"Well shit, sorry." I scoffed, as she smirked.
"Goodnight Melissa, wake me up when they come and pick you up" Marlene yawned.
It was weird, really. All I remember was being asleep, but slightly going to that half asleep-half awake zone. I felt someone kiss my forehead and whisper "I'm sorry, you don't deserve this" but I was too sleepy to condescend to what was happening.
"Melissa..." I heard a whisper, as someone nudged me. "Melissa..." the voice slightly increasing in volume.
"Hm..."
"Marie's here" I heard Marlene finally say.
Suddenly, I shot up, still dreary. Hugged Marlene, said goodbye, and got in the car...
