Leia could barely move without killing herself - if she wasn't doomed to die already. Katy had just stalked out after paying the three assassins. She scrabbled in her pocket for her phone, each movement intensifying the pain. She knew she didn't have long. Two, three calls? And then there was them getting there in time.
She looked at her contacts list. Catus. She phoned him, it went straight to Voicemail. She cursed under her breath, and tried again, but it didn't work. She whimpered in pain and sent a quick message. In the alley by Donston Road. Shot. Help. Catus was probably the only person that could get there in time.
A minute went by and she realized that she couldn't sit around and wait for her Handsome Prince if she wanted to survive. She paused at another number. Melodie. Melodie could help. Unlike Catus, her phone was on.
"Hey Leia!" she squeaked peppily. "Are you-"
"Melodie," groaned Leia. "Melodie... I've been shot..."
"Shot?" gasped Melodie. "As in with a gun?"
"Yes ... I'm in the alley near Donston Lane ... please - please help-"
"OMG! I'm coming straight away!"

Catus hated being in his father's boring council meetings but it couldn't be helped. He was the Prince. All he could do was sit at the back of the room, and play on his phone until the meeting was over. It wasn't as if they ever asked for his contribution. He put his phone onto Voicemail, knowing that his father got mad if he answered calls in the meetings, and hoped that Leia would text him. Her cute texts were definitely a distraction.
But she hadn't texted him yet, so he was going to stick to playing useless yet addictive games on his phone.
She called him twice. With a twinge of guilt and disappointment, he watched them go to Voicemail. He got out his phone to text her. Hey xx What's up with you? He was just about to send when he got her text. He went pale. He yanked his bag from beneath his chair and ran out the room.
"Catus?" his father asked incredulously. "Catus!" he called angrily, but Catus was long gone.

Melodie roared down the road in her car, not even bothering to change the radio station. She should have known Katy would pull something like this.
Mandons never play fair.
Quickly, she typed up the SatNav on her phone, ignoring traffic lights, other people's right of way, and in general other cars. She also ignored the incessant honking of the horns as she drove down the road. A police man on his motor cycle beckoned her to the side of the road. She ignored him and kept on driving, turning the music up. It was awful but evidently it irritated the policeman, who got on his motorbike and drove after her. She increased the speed even more, shooting down the road.
She couldn't let Leia die.Melodie didn't do friends that much and she didn't really believe in "the power of friendship" either. In her mind, that was not a priority. She was fond of Leia, but that wasn't the big point in why she was important to her. She was a tool, a pawn, something she needed to use.
She felt bad about doing it, but what could she do? She wasn't able to do it. Leia was.
Finally the SatNav came up with results for Donston Lane. She drove up, finally found the road. She got out of her car and started running up, looking for an alley. Then she saw it, and sprinted in.

Catus ran at vampire speed. It was faster than a car. If Leia died, he could not forgive himself. His life would have no purpose. He ground his teeth, going faster.
He would find her.
He knew where Donston Lane was. He leapt over buildings, cars and roads. Technically vampires weren't allowed to do that by the law, but mortal policemen weren't stupid enough to stop a vampire in a hurry. Particularly not the prince.
Finally he came to Donston Lane, his eyes scanning for an alley. Then - there it was. He rushed in.

Leia was almost dead, croaking pitifully. Where was Melodie? Where was Catus? She had no strength to pick up her phone. She was going to die here. A victim of Katy Mandon. Katy would win. Katy would win Catus. She felt a roll of nausea at the thought of him and Katy. On their wedding day. In bed. With a child? She let out an anguished sob.
"Leia!" She heard two voices at once.
"Melodie?" she whispered. "Catus?"
"Leia, don't worry, we'll get you safe!" Melodie gabbled.
Catus said nothing, then held her hand. "I'm here, baby. Don't you worry. I'm okay."
