Chapter 1: Incident
"Hello. Is this Oscar Ryan?"
"Yes this is him. Who is this?" I asked.
"This is Doctor Locke from Saint Hilton's Community Hospital."
"Okay. Uh... What do you need?"
"Your Father, Jack Ryan, has been in an accident." Doctor Locke said.
I pause for a moment. And I take a deep breath.
"W-What kind of accident was he in?"
"I believe he was caught in the middle of a drive by shooting."
"Shit. Is... Is he in stable condition?" I asked immediately.
"Mr. Ryan I'm deeply sorry but I just don't have that kind of information right now. If you would like to come down to the hospital. You're more than welcome to come down."
"I will be on my way."
I hung up the phone. I stand up and I run to my kitchen. I try to look for my keys. They're not on the counter, they're not in the drawer.
"God dammit!" I said, "Where are my keys?"
I turn around and I rush to my front door. I'm thinking I left my keys in the car. I ran outside while closing the door behind me. I ran up to my 1969 Ford Mustang. I open up the door and I sit down. I flip down the visor and my keys fall onto my lap. I pick them up and I start the engine. I put the car into reverse and I backed out of my driveway. I start to speed up. Zooming down the street. Rooaaarrr.
My Mother died on November 13th, 1978. Ten minutes after I was born. My Father raised me pretty much my whole life. When I was in school, my friends said I was different. That's only because I didn't have a Mom like everyone else. My Father always used to tell me how amazing she was. They met in High School. And once they first met, they knew it was meant to be. Even before they really knew each other. My Father said he could just feel the connection.
I had an older brother. His name was Charlie Ryan. He ended up being Killed In Action in Afghanistan back in 2007. His plane was shot down, and there were no survivors. I served in the Military too. That's when I met my best friend, Christian. We always had each other's backs. We were both in the Marine Corps for twelve years. He lives in Glodstone, Indiana. No wife, no kids. Nothing.
I am about five minutes away from the Hospital. I look to my left, out my window. I see about four Police cars speed past me. Going the opposite way. There are a few Helicopters too. Doesn't seem good.
A few minutes later I turn left to Charleston St. And I can already see the hospital. I just hope my Father is okay.
20 Minutes Later
I walk into the main lobby of the Hospital. It's not as busy as I thought it would be. Which is good... I think. I look around and I see desks and chairs. With a few elderly sitting in them. There's a few plants too. I continue walking forward to the main desk. The lady at one of the computers looks up at me. Her name is Brianna. Long dark Brown hair and Hazel for her eye color. And glasses too. She clears her throat. And begins to speak.
"What time is your appointment? And name please?"
"My name is Oscar, Oscar Ryan. And I'm not here for an appointment. I'm here to see my Father."
