A week had passed since the death-aversary. Simi was back to normal and since it was the weekend, she decided to leave the house for a bit.
The day was cold so she threw on a thick coat and her scarf and she was out. There was a cafe across the street from the apartment building that she often visited, on a normal day, the cafe would be quiet with only ten people entering an hour but on a cold day like this, it seemed to have been jam packed with people.
Simi struggled to push through the people to get to the line so she could wait to place her order when she noticed who was standing in front of her. Basil had his arm wrapped around his girlfriend's waist and they were looking at the menu together.
Stay away from conflict for today, Simi, she thought to herself, silently clenching her fists.
She did her best to not acknowledge his presence so he wouldn't find out she was behind him.
"Hey, Simi is behind you," Jade whispered to Basil, subtly pointing her finger at her.
Basil raised an eyebrow at the purple haired girl before turning his head to see she was right.
Simi stood quietly behind him, half her face practically stuffed inside her scarf, all he could see were her dark green eyes but there seemed to have been something peaceful about her today as she scrolled through her phone not acknowledging his presence. He had never seen Simi so calm before.
"Next customer, please!" The cashier called out, breaking Basil and Simi out of their trances.
Basil whipped his head around quickly, his cheeks were flushed bright red from embarrassment. He moved to the front of the line and began to place his order.
-
"I'll have a caramel macchiato and a brownie please," Simi monotonously asked, "to go."
The green eyed girl received her coffee in one hand and a little brown bag containing the brownie in the other, she gave the waiter a grateful nod and she was off. Determined to get to her next destination, the book shop, she stepped out of the quaint cafe and into the windy afternoon.
"What the-" Simi didn't even get to finish her sentence before she realized that her coffee had spilled all over her. She turned round to find the culprit, and there was Basil, smirking at her smugly.
She rubbed at her neck feeling a great pain in it. He always went for her hair.
"Fuck you, Basil!" She yelled. "Why are you always after my hair, huh? Do you not have enough tricks in your bag?" She barked before storming off back to her apartment, soaking in sticky, caramel coffee.
Simi stood at her bathroom mirror once again, gripping onto the sides of the basin with anger this time.
You will never- never touch my hair again, Basil.
Simi grabbed ahold of the scissors and started manically chopping her hair.
Simi treasured her hair more than anything, it was long and luscious and glistened in the light but now, it laid in her bathroom basin, almost dead and lifeless looking.
Simi sliced and chopped through her hair until she was left with almost nothing. What was once almost touching the low of her back, was now only reaching the lobes of her ears.
"Fuck you Basil!" Simi shrieked before throwing the scissors on the ground, causing it to graze her knee.
"Simi, is everything alr-" Angelina's mom barged into the bathroom and soon let out a shriek of horror.
There her daughter was, standing and staring at her reflection while blood dripped from her knee and clumps of hair surrounded her. She rushed over to her heated daughter wailing and sobbing, she pulled her into her arms.
After the scene she has witnessed, she wondered if she was holding Simi for the sake of comforting her or for the sake of comforting herself.
