"This is stupid." I tossed the bit of fabric across the room. It rested on the head of my bed before being dragged down by its own weight and plummeting to the floor. Fantastic. It's going to take forever to retrieve it from behind there. I lost my favourite bracelet in the fifth grade back there and I haven't seen it since. I slumped onto my bed and stared aimlessly at the ceiling.

"Here try on this new lipstick I bought. It's definitely your colour." Crystal waved the stick of lipstick in front of me as though it was going to blow away all my problems. It's worth a shot. I popped the lid off. It's rose pink with a slight shimmer. I gently pressed it against my lips and applied a light coat. "Look, I told you it's your colour." She beamed.

"I shouldn't be going to this party Crystal. I have my assignment to worry about."

"You've been stuck in your room all day. A night out will help clear your mind. Besides you still have three weeks. Inspiration is surely going to come to you soon." Crystal reassured, adding an extra coat of mascara to her lashes. I drowned my face in my pillow. What if it doesn't. what if my mind remains like one blank page for three weeks? For the rest of my life. I want to curl into a ball and hide under my sheets.

"And now for your dress." As Crystal walked over to my closet. One her way over her hip collided into the dressing table, knocking over the black nail polish. A dramatic fall. It hit the floor and smashed into a million pieces. The dress was the real victim. The contents of the little glass bottle made a new home all over Crystal's navy-blue dress. The skirt is completely splattered with bright pink droplets. The bodice barely saved. Crystal's mouth formed an O shape. A silent scream escaping her lips. I actually think the small mishap has added a nice pop to the outfit. It almost looks like part of the design.

"Here." I said, helping wipe up the splattered wooden floors.

"I can't wear this." Crystal pouted. "I've completely ruined it."

"No, you haven't." I shook my head. "have black lace and ribbon. It will complement the dress." I walked over to my drawer to scavenge for my small golden box. There it is buried underneath my other shiny belongings. As I reached to grab it my fingers brushed over a pair of earrings. Black drop earrings. Another addition to this look. I worked my magic. I tied the ribbon around her waist and quickly stitched the lace to the brim of her dress. The splattered nail polish no longer a mistake but a beautiful mess along the skirt of the dress.

"Wow." Crystal gasped. "Violet this is amazing!"

Something burned inside of me. Content. "Thanks Crystal, I believe I have some idea of what I want to do for my assignemnt." My corners of my lips stretched to my ears. The idea is half baked but it's something.

"Actually Violet, I wanted to ask you something." She said, fixing her earrings in place. "It's about Josh." Oh dear. What is she going to say? I bit down on my lip and looked at her. "When did the top of you become closed again?"

"Well." I began, looking every where around the room hopefully to find the perfect lie. "We just thought enough is enough you know and we started talking ever since Mrs Trudy sat us together."

Crystal's phone buzzed in her hand. "Our ride's here. Let's go party." The joy in her tone could shine light in the darkest of places.

"Ride? Who's taking us?" I peered outside the window and noticed a midnight blue car parked outside my driveway.

"Didn't I tell you. Aidan offered to drive us." She delivered half the words in my room and half out the door as she sped downstairs at the speed of light. I sighed. The breath of air turning into the weight of my worries and fell at my feet. We stepped outside. The chilly breeze swept over me and flooded my body with goosebumps. The car pulled into my driveway. I shielded my eyes with my hands from the blinding head lights. horn bellowed twice in the silent neighbourhood despite the clear sight of us. The window rolled down and Aidan pocked out his obnoxious head.

"Hey Crystal. The front seats free and it's all yours." He winked suspiciously.

Crystal's brows furrowed. She gradually descended down the driveway. I watched as her hand hovered over the door handle. After that entrance I would feel suspicious myself. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if I found a pink elephant in the car. I followed behind her and pulled open the door. I was welcomed by Aidan's leafy green eyes. I bet if I look closely, I can notice his pupils shaped into narrow slits. He's smiling like a Cheshire cat. A look too familiar. Pranks hidden away in his sleeve. I plopped into the seat next to him. Accepting my fate. Beside Aidan was a slightly friendlier face. Only slightly. Chase.

"I thought you weren't coming tonight." Crystal raised her brows. I directed my eyes to the front only now realising that Aidan who had promised to give us a ride was in fact not in the driver's seat. The mop of wavy brunette hair. Grey eyes. My eyes bulged out of their sockets. If I recall from our recent encounter, he said he couldn't make it tonight. Why is he here>

"Josh cancelled his plans to meet a certain someone." Aidan teased. The words arose and hit the roof of the car. A silence spell cast over us. Josh chipped away at the block of silence with the clearing of his throat.

"That's right. I made time tonight because I wanted to." He cleared his throat. "To see you." He lifted his eyes from the wheel and glanced at Crystal.

"Of course." Crystal replied with a smile on her face. As it grew bigger my heart sunk deeper. "Violet and I were excited to see all of you guys too." I snorted loudly. Aidan glared at me and I noticed Josh's stare from the rear mirror. I stifled the smile spreading on my face and straightened my posture.
