Water Scarcity
What is water? Water can merely be defined as the most important life-sustaining natural resource that has no substitute. It is the most valuable resource on earth. In fact, it is a commodity needed by every human being whatever their culture, religion or country. In addition, no human being can stay more than three days without drinking water because if you do not drink water you shall die. The human body needs to consume at least a gallon of water per day in order to survive. This is because you constantly excrete water through sweat and urination, so your body needs to replenish the lost fluids.
Luckily the world is blue it means that there is a substantial amount of water. Nevertheless, does that water suffice to fulfil all the ''hydro-needs'' of the world? ''Data shows that even though we live on a planet that is covered in water, 97% of it is salty and nearly 2% is snow and ice. That leaves 1% to tend to our agricultural needs, to assist our power generation, and to provide for household drinking and bathing needs.'' Is that 1% necessary?
Unfortunately, the world is running out of water. Firstly, many people think that water is a commodity that will never come to shortage. In other words, people take water for granted. Secondly, little are the number of countries, which cap the amount of water to be used by each person every day. Thirdly, the world's fresh water supply is also shrinking due to pollution, draining of underground aquifers, and climate change.
According to experts' reckonings, by 2025 about one-third of the global population will not have access to adequate drinking water. By 2030 water supply will only satisfy 60% of global demand. Therefore, it goes without saying that water shall be among or if not the most needed commodity on earth. Willing of this looming threat, countries like South Africa have introduced a policy called Day Zero. Day Zero is when most of the city's taps will be turned off in order to raise the population awareness of the importance of water. Use your water wisely all your heirs will deadly regret it !
