I leaned against the door, gazing into the hallway as they assembled their plan. All they do is talk about hope. I'm not convinced.
"Oka-tan! Are you sure you don't have anything to add?" Hana asked.
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, I'm good." I looked up and saw someone at the end of the hallway. To my surprise, it was Kana. I lowered my helmet, hiding my eyes. I think I might need to make a note of that. I think I said something about a shit-list earlier.
She backed away, disappearing around the corner. I glared over into the dining hall. They were too absorbed in their own shit to pay me any mind. I used the chance to slip away. "Might as well head to my room, get some peace and quiet."
I made my way to the exit and stepped out into the cool air. I cut through the grass, heading over to the dorm buildings. I flung the door open, and quickly pulled it shut behind me. I tossed my helmet onto the bed and walked over to the closet.
I opened it up and inspected its contents. Inside was just about every construction tool I could ever need. I examined some of the tools, making sure they were in working order. I said I hate my talent, never said anything about not being a professional. As I examined the wrench I was interrupted by a knock at the door. I put the wrench in my jacket and turned to the door. I waited, and there was another knock. I then headed over and opened it.

I walked down the path and saw a familiar face leaning against the dorms. "Afternoon, Hammer. How's the day treating you?"
"I came to ask you a question, citizen."
I squinted. "Continue."
He scratched his head, sighing. "You seem to resent your talent. Why is that?"
I kicked the wall. "Didn't we go over this? I didn't choose this, it got dumped on me through my family. Now I'm stuck."
He shook his head. "I think you look at it wrong. It may not be the path you chose, but it's the one meant for you. Or something like that."
"Is there a point to this?"
Hammer frowned. "I had a feeling you'd not be the most receptive. Still, consider what I said. You look down at your shoes when you should be looking at the path ahead. You'll see many more paths than you are right now."
I sighed. "Whatever. If that's all, I have somewhere to be."
He nodded. "I won't hold you any longer than necessary, citizen." He turned, making his way back to the main building.
"Self-righteous dick," I muttered to myself. I turned and made my way to the other end of the dorms. It's time to have a conversation with Kana.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I knocked on the door, keeping my gaze locked on it.
"Who's there?" Kana asked. I could tell she was right behind the door.
"Daisuke."
The door opened slightly. I could see her peering through the crack. "What do you want?"
I chuckled. "Someone's happy to see me, huh?" I leaned on the door. Bad move. As soon as I tried, I was pulled in and held in a chokehold.
"Trying to sneak up on me? Last time we talked we were at each other's throats."
I kept struggling, but I could feel my consciousness fading. Finally, I was able to flip her over my shoulder, and she slammed into the floor. I scrambled to my feet, heading for the door. As I did, she crawled to the closet and flung it open. "Not so fast, Daisuke."
I took my hand off the door and slowly turned. To my surprise, she had a gun trained on me. "I get that they gave us stuff for our talent, but really? Just handed you a gun?"
"Don't try to small talk. Why are you here?"
"You've been stalking me since the killing game started. Why? You see me as an easy target?"
"I just don't trust you." She said. "I see how you've cut yourself off. Everyone here panicked when this started, but not you. You're gonna tell me why."
I shrugged. "Go to hell. Why should I trust that?" I could see the anger in her eyes.
"I'm not letting anybody die here. You're an outlier. You haven't given this situation any attention. It's like you know nothing's going to happen to you." She stepped forward, holding the gun close to my head. "I think you know more than you're letting on. So you're gonna tell me what that is."
I sighed. "I think you're mistaken. All I am is-" I began, before taking the wrench from my jacket and swinging it at her head. The swing connected, and she hit the ground with a thud. I knelt down and checked her pulse. She was still alive, still breathing. That's good. I opened the door slightly and looked around. Nobody. The sun was setting over the school, and the shadows began to fall.
I put the wrench in my jacket and took the gun she used. She's too volatile to have it, only been here a day and she's paranoid and ready to kill me. That's not how this works. I placed it next to my wrench and carried her outside. I brought her to the main building and made my way through the doors. I spotted Blake in the hallway, and got his attention.
"Blake, help me out! Kana took a nasty fall heading out of her room, I think she hit her head on the pavement!"
