When the piercing blade purposely was thrown against him in a flashing speed, in a nick of a moment he was only able to grab the blade that was aimed at his throat. The stinging edge managed to seep into his palm and let the dark blood drip gush down his arms in thin streams. Sanskaar's eyes turned moist at that searing pain inflicted by that harsh slash.
The disinfectant liquid stung against the cut brought Sanskaar back to the moment. He flinched visibly but Swara held his hands more firmly as she gently dapped the cotton on the cut to clean the blood just like she was instructed by the teacher. She was more keen on getting him nursed rather than inquiring him about the mishap.
Only at the loss of contract of the cotton on his injury, Sanskaar opened his eyes that had turned misty. Swara hadn't spoke a word from the moment she discovered the wound and chose to torture him with silence. But he didn't fail to notice his pain mirroring in her hazels when he himself hissed in pain.
Was she angry? hurt? or disappointed?- he couldn't find a answer, not when she skillfully masked her emotions and left her eyes frozen in nothingness. Sanskaar could not read her nor to say she didn't let him do so and let him get sunk in a painful guilt trip along with that burning ache. The moment he saw the teacher leaving the room to get the gauges that were over, Sanskaar was all set to pacify his best friend.
"Swara."
He called out but Swara was rather focused more on the injury that was no more bleeding, the slash looked too neat but left a nasty cut. Swara wanted to softly trace the wound and was tempted to ask if that hurts, but neither she would ask nor do the action she was tempted. She feared if it would leave a scar behind, her eyes glistened at the thought of how painful it should have been to bleed but not let out even a small whimper.
Sanskaar sensed it. Her slender fingers impulsed to touch the injury but then she would withdrawing her fingers as if she was afraid to do so. Swara was highly concerned but too adamant to torment him with her silence. And somewhere he knew it was just the result of his action of keeping things in the dark for a while.
Especially the lie he forced himself to vocalize when Swara asked him about his whereabouts last night, that made him have a chaotic state of mind followed by the bleeding mishap. Somewhere Sanskaar knew even if not for the day, maybe he could have confessed and apologized for not letting her know it soonest. Anyhow he was not going to back off from the decision he took.
"I've been doing extra side jobs for a while." He confessed sincerely, "And this - I got it from there. It was aimed to slash me gravely, fortunately it left me with a minor one." Sanskaar disclosed the matter that stirred in his heart for a time being. Only when he uttered the last sentence, she shifted her sight from his palm to meet his gaze.
Swara was taken a back by the new found information, he could tell it by how her hazel orbs widened and overly concern filling them. Suddenly, her waterline sparkled by the moisture and her eyes darkened as she looked away.
Sanskaar was rooted at the sudden witness of changes in his favourite hazels and it left him in loss of words. When he saw Swara abruptly on her foot to leave, Sanskaar would have followed if not the teacher had stopped him to complete the dressing.
Left with no other choice he sat and let the teacher apply the antibiotic ointment and plaster the wound. The cut no more inflamed the way his heart did at the moment. Sanskaar's orbs wavered to the entrance from the time she had left him behind in the room and disappeared from his sight.
The empty bench she had sat a while ago made him feel sense of loss like never before. That sudden snap and her alluring hazels bringing up tears of hurt kept flashing in his mind, eating away his sanity. As Sanskaar remained saturated in the endless stream of guilt, his other palm reached out to his chest that painfully formed a knots of bitter memories and tied together by his withering emotions- it ached.
