Chapter 5.

Noah still wasn't awake. He was badly injured and I was extremely worried. Last night shortly after I realised he wasn't going to wake up, the pack doctor rushed in and took us both to the infirmary. I was quickly treated and then they hooked Noah up to one of their machines. He would heal. But it would take a little time. I'd stayed with him all night. My hand clutching his tightly, hoping he would wake. There is nothing the doctors can do, except wait.

Soon I will have to visit the Alpha, and maybe even Xavier. If I am forced to. The idea of facing Xavier made my blood boil. The fact that he still thinks he owns me is ridiculous. I can't believe for one second how someone can think beating up their best friend is the right thing to do in a dire situation. If it weren't for Noah, maybe I would have ran away yesterday. Like Sofia suspected. However, it had kept repeating in my mind what she said. What did she mean by escape? I understand that she once ran away but why would I need to? What would I be running from...Xavier? Or something worse.

Either way, I would ask her about it as soon as I got the chance.

I hadn't slept all night, so without any disturbances, I fell asleep. My hand still clutching Noah's.

When I awoke, it was because a nurse was shaking me. I blinked, and rubbed at my eyes. Then I panicked, and turned to Noah, wondering what the situation was. Instead of something drastic, he was still asleep.

I looked up at the nurse, she had a sympathetic smile. "Sweetie, the Alpha wishes to see you."

"What about Noah?" I knew I couldn't avoid the meeting, but I couldn't leave Noah alone.

She smiled at me, and tidied his covers. "His mother is coming soon to sit with him. And his father will visit later too. Until then, I'll look after him. Don't you worry."

Reluctantly, I nodded and slowly left the room. Still feeling sluggish, it took me awhile to wander to the Alpha's office. When I reached the door, I only then became scared. What was to happen now? Would what happened last night make it worse? There was only one way to find out.

Without any further delay, I placed my hand on the cool metal of the door handle and turned. The door swung open gently. The Alpha was seated at his desk, looking through some papers. He beckoned me forward with his hand, and I did as I was told. Then I looked to my left, and saw that behind him, leaning against the wall, was Xavier. Immediately I scowled, and halted in my tracks. When I didn't sit down, Ayden looked at me and sighed.

"He won't hurt you, Asha. Please, sit."

I gritted my teeth. I wasn't scared of him, I was angry at him. Regardless, I sat down, and waited for the lecture to begin. Ayden studied his papers for a few more antagonising minutes, until he cleared his throat and looked up at me. He leaned forward, and rested his chin upon his knuckles.

"How is Noah doing?" He asked me.

Surprised, I blinked. "He's healing, but still not awake."

He nodded, "I see." Then he sighed. "Let's start with what happened last night, and how you are Noah became to be friends. Shall we?"

Gulping, I decided to answer his question. "When I was injured, Noah came into my room one day, and sat with me. He wanted to keep me company, and we watched some films. He watched over me whilst I was injured and took care of me. He introduced me to Sofia and kept me sane."

"I see. And was it yours or his idea to not tell Xavier?"

Should I lie to him? Would he know? "It was a combined decision. I thought it was a bad idea, and he knew Xavier wouldn't like it. But I needed someone to talk to."
