"Hey, Nico!" Molly shouted. "Where's my hat? You know, the one shaped like a cat?"
"How would I know?" Nico was trying her best to make sandwiches for their picnic lunch. "Oh, screw this!" Nico grabbed her staff and was about to utter a spell before Karolina grabbed it.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"These stupid sandwiches are taking forever because some of us have special diets." Nico snatched her staff back. "I was going to cast a spell to make the process go faster."
"If you needed help, you could have asked." Karolina took out jam and peanut butter and quickly spread them across slices of bread. "PB&J- your favorite."
"You're the best girlfriend ever." Nico gazed into Karolina's eyes and smiled before leaning in for a kiss.
"If you two are done," Molly crossed her arms, "could someone please tell me where my cat hat is?"
"Aren't you wearing it?" Victor walked into the kitchen with a wrench in his hand.
"I meant the other one."
"Uh, don't tell Gert I told you, but she borrowed it yesterday for a school project. She said having to wear it was the worst thing that ever happened to her since she died." Molly quickly ran upstairs. "Wait, are you adding mozzarella to my sandwich?" Victor asked.
"I thought you liked mozzarella." Karolina pointed at Victor's wrench. "What do you need that thing for?"
"I'm keeping it away from Chase. He wants to make modifications to the car. Last thing we need is for it to break down before we can get to the beach." Victor looked at his sandwich and shaked his head. "Ugh. I have not been able to eat mozzarella since our fight with the Pizza Man. Gives me nightmares." He picked out the cheese and tossed it in the garbage.
"Look at the bright side," Nico finished making the last sandwich, "if it weren't for the Pizza Man, we wouldn't be able to go on this trip." She put the sandwiches in the basket.
"I mean, thanks to that rich, old lady we saved, we have enough money to do anything we want today." Karolina grabbed the basket and her beach towel. "Just goes towards proving that the more good you do; the more good happens to you. Also this trip is long overdo. I haven't gone on a vacation like this since...well, since our parents were still alive" Karolina sighed. "I know they were evil, but sometimes, I wish they were still here."
"We all do." Nico placed her hand on Karolina's shoulder.
"Would you look at the time!" Victor exclaimed. "I'm going to see if Gert needs help making our vacation playlist. As awesome as Elvis Presley is, I'm going to make sure she adds something modern."
Karolina began walking out to the car before turning her head towards Nico. "I'm going to put the stuff in the trunk. Could you check up on Chase? Make sure he didn't put on the neon green Hawaiian t-shirt." She then ran outside.
Nico grinned. She couldn't wait to spend the day with her crazy yet amazing family.
