More than friends

Part 1

My name is Liv, well it's actually Lavinia but nobody calls me that except from teachers, it's always been Liv for as long as I can remember. Paddy was the first one who called me by that nickname and after that it just caught on. I live in Kingston with my mum and sister, after my mum and dad split up me and my mum started arguing a lot more recently and it has definitely taken a toll on me. I am extremely close with my dad but I don't get to see him very often.
Paddy is the one person who has always been there for me and I can always count on. His family is like my own and they love like no other family has ever loved me.
I hear my mum shout my name and I scramble out of bed to see what the problem is
"You called me mum"
"Yes, I need to talk to you about something important"
"Of course"
I take a seat next to my mum cautious of what I say because we aren't on great terms already.
"Honey, your dad has been in a car accident and is right now in hospital"
Tears prick at my eyes as I remain speechless, why do these things always happen to me.
"Is he okay"
"The doctors are trying to work that out at the moment"
I feel my mums touch and flinch as she brushes my arm.
I run upstairs to grab my phone, go back downstairs and out the door ignoring my mums shouts.
Paddy lives just down the street and he is the only one that has ever been able to calm me down in these situations.
I run up to the door knocking loudly and a very tired looking Tom opens the door.
"H-hey can I see paddy please"
"Of course Liv, come in he's in his room"
I run upstairs tears continue to fall from my eyes, I burst into his room to see that he is sprawled across the bed watching something on his laptop.
"Pads"
"Hey Li- Oh my god why are you crying"
He opens his arms for me and I lie next to him and bury my face into his chest.
"It's my dad, he's he's in h-hospital"
"Awwww Liv don't cry, he'll pull through and I'm always here, you wanna have a movie night and I'll take you to see your dad in the morning"
Paddy says "Yes" I squeal, this is why I am best friends with Paddy he can always help me out of any situation no matter how bad it gets. Paddy let me borrow some of his clothes to sleep in and cuddled me till I fell asleep. Paddy slept on the couch since sleeping in the same bed would be inappropriate but something in me wishes he was lying next to me- what am I thinking?

It's the next day and I walk into the kitchen and am immersed in the heavenly smell of Sams cooking.
"Omg Sam please tell me that's pancakes" He laughs and follows my question with a yes to which I squeal jumping up and down.
"I made them especially for you, Paddy told us what happened and I'm so sorry"
"It's Okay Sam, I hope he makes it"
Paddy comes into the room and hears the last bit of you conversation.
"Hey Liv don't think like that, he'll make it" Paddy hugs me close making me feel better as a tear escapes my eye lid rolling down and making a wet patch on Paddy's T-shirt. He wipes your tears away and whispers so only you can hear
"It's okay I'm here for you, buttercup"

Being so close to Paddy made you realise that his heart was beating quite fast so you took his hand and ran circles with your thumb on the back of his hand. In this moment you realised that you were developing feelings for your best friend....

"Pads can we go to the hospital now"
You ask distancing yourself after your realisation, how could you fall for your best friend. He probably doesn't even like me back. "Yea of course" Paddy says knowing something is off but just thinking it's about your dad. When you arrive at the hospital you and Paddy run up to the front desk
"Hi, I'm here to see William Oldman"
"Relation?" The nurse asks politely.
"I'm his daughter"
"I'm very sorry to inform you that your father passed away an hour ago"
You collapse to the floor while tears stream down your face, Paddy embraces you and you hide in his chest mumbling "how could this happen"
"Buttercup, I love you and we can get through this"
