The whirring of the TARDIS engines died down, Kaylee and the doctor looked at eachother, and simultaneously ran through the doors. Kaylee breathed in and smelled the air, searching for adventure, but she burst out laughing when she saw the doctor.
"What? What's so funny!" He cried, looking around and feeling embarrassed when she pointed to his head. He felt his head, expecting to just feel his brown hair, but instead felt feathers and a beak, "is there a chicken on my head?" Kaylee still hadn't stopped laughing, so she just nodded, wiping a tear off her cheek.
When she calmed down the doctor gave her a look, "it was not that funny."
"Yes it was! i got a picture, wanna see?" She showed him her phone, helaughed as he saw his face, not as hard as she had, but enough to make her smile. Which he secretly enjoyed.
"Why 1770? Why in the middle of a war, why on a farm?" She asked, looking at the marvelous scenery, "i honestly believe we wouldn't come here just to play with the chickens."
"No, we didn-" he was interrupted by a loud shriek that escaped Kaylee's mouth as she realized something.
"I'm American! I can't be in England! Not during this time period! Doctor, are you trying to get me killed??" She was suddenly furious and hid behind a tree.
He laughed, as if he hadn't thought of that,"You're worrying for nothing, love. I always keep a portable voice modifier with me just in case." The doctor rummaged through various pockets until he pulled it out of one, waving the device in front of her face as proof.
"First of all, did you just call me love? Because, i don't think we're even friends yet, and second, what about clothes, jeans and t-shirts weren't big in the 1770's."
"I hate to admit it, but you're right... there's got to be a shop around here somewhere, i love a little shop." She rolled her eyes.
"Doctor," she hit his arm, trying to get his attention, "doctor!"
"What! Ow!" He yelled, "ohh the redcoats are coming. Ha! Get it."
With an eye roll she smeared mud all over her clothes, "now they won't see what i'm wearing. Here have some," she rubbed some on his cheek, "now you're disguised too!"
He gave her a flat look, but rapidly changed his mood as the redcoats walked over, "good evening, gentlemen." He smiled, pretending he didn't notice the mud on his face.
She whispered, "Doctor, what do i say?" Kaylee was panicking, babbling random things and caressing her hands.
"Just let me do the talking, and calm down!"
"Calm, i'm always calm!"she whisper-shouted.
"Shut up and everything will be fine, just smile and nod!"
"Sir, i know it is not my place to ask, but if i may, what are you whispering about with the mud-covered servant girl?" The man asked, clearly not caring about Kaylee's feelings.
The doctor held her hand to stop her from punching him as he said, "she is not my servant. She is my wife," he nodded to her, "and we slipped in the mud up at that little farm on the hilltop over there."
"I am very sorry to here that. But that doesn't explain why you are standing on the royal family's carriage route as the queen is about to pass through any minute."
"As it just may happen, we are on our way to the castle as we speak. See, i grew up there and i just want to visit my mom," he flashed the redcoats a look at the psychic paper.
"It days that you're HEIR TO THE THRONE!? Are you crazy??" Kaylee spoke up, and whispered the last part.
"Just a little bit, yeah." He smirked, proud of his own audacity.
