"There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. There once was a very large lake here, the largest lake in Texas. That was over a hundred years ago. Now it is just a dry, flat wasteland. There used to be a town of Green Lake as well.

The town shrivelled and dried up along with the lake, and the people who lived there. During the summer the daytime temperature hovers around ninety-five degrees in the shade – if you can find any shade. There's not much shade in a
big dry lake. The only trees are two old oaks on the eastern edge of the "lake".

A hammock is stretched between the two trees, and a log cabin stands behind that. The campers are forbidden to lie in the hammock. It belongs to the warden. The warden owns the shade. Out on the lake, rattlesnakes and scorpions find shade under rocks and in the holes dug by the campers.

Here's a good rule to remember about rattlesnakes and scorpions: if you don't bother them, they won't bother you. Usually. Being bitten by a scorpion or even a rattlesnake is not the worst thing that can happen to you. You won't die. Usually." says Thierry, as we leave the camper. He folds the letter from his grandfather back into the pocket of his jeans.

"Please Thierry, can you tell me one more time why we are doing this?!"

"Only if you stop whining, Jesse!"

"Oh come on, we both know that this was not how we imagined our honeymoon,"

"If you don't like it then you can leave, you know that, right? Just because I have to go on this trip for my family, who paid for our whole wedding, doesn't mean you have to be here!"

"I didn't mean it like that!"

"But you said it so there must be some sort of truth hidden," says Thierry and he looks at me. He looks so tired and hurt. Why am I always messing things up?

"Look I'm sorry about what I said earlier, okay? I know that this trip is important to you and now that we are married we must support each other in difficult times. Especially with our history, I can't lose you again..." I go in for a hug after saying these words and he hugs me back.

"Thank you for apologising, it's fine. Now if you don't mind, we are on a quest, remember?"

Ah yes, the quest. As Thierry rightfully mentioned earlier, his family provided our wedding. Only there was a condition: we had to go to Camp Green Lake, where the family originally is from, and find the family heirloom. It was a recipe, made by his grandfather.

We continue walking and after a few hours, the sun is starting to set. Usually, the sunset is our favorite part of the day. Where we just lay down, appreciate the beautiful skies and enjoy ourselves with a nice bottle of wine. It's the peak of my day. But this time, it's different.

We've been walking for hours and still no sight of the two trees, where the family heirloom currently resides. Today's temperature was around 100 degrees, but the sun is gone now and the temperature has dropped immensely. I have shivers down my spine because it's incredibly cold here.

"Thierry, I'm tired. Why don't we go back and try again tomorrow?"

"Go back?? You know that's a 2 hour walk again, why would we do that? We're so close I can feel it, we can't quit now!"

"Sigh, okay." I put on a fake smile, anything for Thierry.

After ten more unbearable minutes of walking in a dry, cold dessert Thierry suddenly stops walking.
