Speeding through the night is already a hard task. Add rain to the mix and you have a recipe for disaster. This wasn't just any rain, no it was torrential downpour. This is the type of rain you seek shelter for. Stay inside where it's warm and dry. Stay safe and off the slippery roads. Your family and loved ones wouldn't worry knowing you were home. That however isn't our job. So here we are.
A SUV packed full of agents from the BAU, racing through the downpour in the dead middle of night. The ride was bumpy and hectic. Bright white flashes of lightning lit up the gloomy sky as it struck the earth below. If not for the flashes and the headlights, you wouldn't be able to see five feet in front of you. Yeah, catching bad guys isn't the only danger of the job.
The team was ready. Locked and Loaded. We had the target on our mind. Gregory McCullon. This man was wanted for six counts of kidnapping. Five Murders. He has the last victim. If he runs true to his course, she'll be dead by the end of the night. Everyone was tense with this knowledge. Would we be too late? You never know, but you must be prepared for the worst.
Derek drove. There was no way talking him out of it when a young woman's life is on the line. He's there whenever you need him to be. Whether it's breaking down doors, having a foot chase, or aggressively driving, he's the one.
You could feel the atmosphere of the car change once the house came into view. It looked like every other. A simple cookie cutter home. Little did you know it held monsters. I could only compare it to the Hansel and Gretel storybook. The lights were on. He's home.
Parking the car the team immediately stepped into action. All four doors flew open at the same time, almost in perfect unison. Instantly we were met with the pelting rain and harsh winds of the storm. It didn't bother us. We had a job to do.
Guns drawn and held steady at the ground we each moved swiftly to the residence. One by one we surrounded the front entrance of the two story home. With police in position in the rear, I gave the signal to enter. Without any hesitation Morgan kicked the door with all the pent up emotions he had from the car. Instantly it flew off the hinges and crashed to the floor. A scream of surprise was heard from inside the home.
Guns steady and footwork light, the team entered the residence. One by one the rooms were searched with haste. Entering the kitchen there was evidence of life. A baby's bottle that was once full of milk was now knocked over. Milk still dripping from the counter onto the floor. A baby's bottle? McCullon only ever kidnapped young women. Was it possible we profiled him wrong?Moving on from the kitchen the team met around the staircase.
Lightning still crackled outside, like a whip narrating the storm. Evidence of the weather was clear on members of the team. We were all soaked just from standing outside in it for those few moments. Water dripped from my hair and glided across the skin of my cheek. It didn't matter. It could glide all it wants. My focus is on this mission.
Suddenly lightning struck almost on top of the house. A Loud shriek echoed the crashing of the thunder. It made everyone's ears stand up. Our eyes spoke louder than our minds could. We all said the same thing. Upstairs.
"Hotch." Morgan uttered before nodding his head towards the staircase. With a nod of approval we followed him up the stairs, taking them one by one. Reid followed close behind me, then Prentiss, then Rossi. Coming to the top of the staircase we eyed the only room with a light on. It was the closest to the stairs.
Thunder boomed from above us, almost as if yelling to move in. Another terrified scream followed, prompting us to burst into the room, guns drawn and ready.
"Gregory McCullon! Step away from the girl!"
